This is one of a handful of recent commissions I’ve been working on. What a sweet invitation it was to capture a special place for a man’s wife as a surprise gift.
I love considering what spaces mean to people — not merely as snapshots of memory, but as reminders of who they became within them. The awareness (re)awakened there. The tenderness discovered there. The version of themselves that emerged in response to a particular landscape, season, or light.
The memory beyond the memory.
That is often what I find myself trying to paint.
