We now have 14 new Junior Master Gardeners and 2 honorable mentions! This great group of students has learned so much this year. Some of their favorite moments from this school year were finding spiders in the garden, planting flower bulbs, building hydroponics projects, making terrariums, having an herb party, and so much more!

🍠Thanks to the Bartow Master Gardeners Association , we have our sweet potato plugs and we are ready to enter the first annual sweet potato contest!

🍠 Did you know sweet potatoes aren’t actually closely related to regular potatoes at all?

🍠Regular potatoes belong to the nightshade family (the same group as tomatoes and eggplants), while sweet potatoes are part of the morning glory family—yes, like the flowering vine 🌸. Botanically speaking, they’re about as related as apples and roses.

We would like to give an 🌱 herbalicious thank you to the Magnolia Garden Club of Cartersville GA for volunteering their time, resources, and knowledge today in garden club. Students learned the history of herbs and about their many uses, and they used their senses to explore various herbs. 👀👃🏼👅✋🏼 Thank you, ladies, for a fun, educational, and delicious afternoon!

Our Junior Master Gardeners learned how to utilize seed catalogs to help plan for our spring and summer garden. Students determined which plants would grow in our hardiness zone, when to plant, how many days to maturity, and if they should be directly sown or started indoors. Lots of learning happening!

It may be too cold to be in the garden, but there is still so much learn indoors. Our junior master gardeners learned about the different layers and components of terrariums so they can enjoy some greenery while they wait for spring. Check out these beautiful terrariums and some sweet decorations made by one of our wonderful parents!

How can we design a system to grow food without soil using only water, nutrients, and recycled materials in limited space?

Our Junior Master Gardeners worked together in teams for several months designing hydroponic systems, testing them out, and determining their effectiveness. Their hard work earned them 2nd place in the Georgia Farm Bureau STEM Challenge.

We are so very proud of all the learning taking place in our Roaring Roots garden club. 🙌🏻
