🌧️ This week’s spring rain in Cartersville, GA and Bartow County was not a major storm event, but it was enough to reveal where underlying drainage and erosion issues may already exist, especially in newer developments where grading and soil settling are still adjusting.

If you noticed standing water, soggy areas in the yard, minor washouts, or moisture near your foundation, these are early warning signs that should not be ignored. In North Georgia’s clay-heavy soil, even moderate rain can expose problems that will continue to worsen over time.

At All Together Backyards, we specialize in erosion control and drainage solutions in Cartersville and surrounding areas, including
-French drains for proper water redirection
-Retaining walls for slope stabilization
-Yard grading to correct water flow
-Long-term stormwater management solutions such as dry rock beds

Addressing these issues early can help protect your foundation, landscaping, and overall property value before heavier seasonal rains arrive.

Custom Garden Design in North Georgia 🌿

At All Together Backyards, creating custom garden spaces has always been part of what we do. From raised garden beds and custom greenhouses to fenced-in garden areas, we design and build outdoor spaces that are both beautiful and functional.

These projects feature a greenhouse built from reclaimed windows, an in-ground greenhouse using a recycled skylight, and custom raised beds with protective fencing, all designed for year-round growing here in North Georgia.

If you’ve been thinking about a backyard garden, greenhouse, or homestead-style setup, we’d love to help bring your vision to life.

Opening up this covered back porch for a client.

This ranch-style home originally had four support posts across the porch, which limited the view and usable space.

We installed a structural header beam so we could safely remove two of the posts and open the porch up while still fully supporting the roof above.

The result is a much more open and functional covered back porch while keeping everything solid and structurally sound.

If you’ve ever wondered whether posts or beams can be removed to improve your outdoor space, we’re always happy to take a look and talk through options.

Another project wrapped up in Acworth!

This one included removing an old back porch and front porch, followed by a full rebuild of both spaces. Starting fresh allowed us to create a safer, stronger structure that will hold up for years to come.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to help homeowners bring new life to their outdoor spaces.

If your porch or deck needs repair or replacement, feel free to reach out.

Lake Arrowhead Project | From Fence to Full Drainage Solution

This project in Lake Arrowhead started out simple — we were originally hired to build a fence.

Once we got on site, the homeowner asked if there was anything that could be done about the slick, steep hill leading down to the basement entrance. When it rained, that slope became unsafe and nearly impossible to walk down.

That’s when this project really took shape.

We designed and built a custom stair system to create safe access to the basement from the outside. While doing that work, we began addressing the water issues causing the hill to stay slick in the first place.

As we dug in, we realized the existing French drain wasn’t installed correctly and wasn’t doing its job. After evaluating how water was moving down the hill, it became clear that one drain wasn’t enough. The solution ended up being five total French drains to properly intercept and redirect the water.

The excavated dirt was originally supposed to be reused for raised beds, but none of it was suitable fill, so we also brought in 7 yards of clean soil to complete the beds correctly.

To slow down and safely redirect surface water coming downhill, we also installed a dry creek bed, which helps control runoff while blending naturally into the landscape.

What started as a fence turned into a full access and drainage solution — improving safety, protecting the home, and fixing problems that would’ve only gotten worse over time.

Projects like this are a good reminder that the right fix isn’t always the fastest one — it’s the one that actually solves the problem.

Two years ago, we built the perimeter fence for this beautiful backyard. This summer, the homeowners asked us back to add fencing around their flower beds.

With several large dogs and a love for gardening, they needed a way to protect their plants while still keeping the space open and cohesive. The new fencing creates clear garden boundaries, adds structure, and elevates the overall layout of the yard.

Always great to return to a past project and help it take the next step.

Stock Tank Pool + Backyard Upgrade

We loved transforming this space for our clients! Here’s what went into the project:
1️⃣ Graded and hand-dug the area to prepare the foundation
2️⃣ Built a small retention wall for stability and structure
3️⃣ Relocated dirt into other areas of the yard where it was needed
4️⃣ Added river rock as the base
5️⃣ Installed the stock tank pool for the perfect backyard retreat

Big thanks to Exterior for the referral after giving this home a fresh house wash! 🙌
