What makes a great exterior shade? It’s not just the shade.

It comes down to three things: the right product, an installation done right, and maintenance after the sale.

1. THE RIGHT PRODUCT
Choose for your opening, exposure and local conditions. Ask what the complete installed system is actually tested for. A marketing claim is not the same as documentation.

2. PROPER INSTALLATION
Brick, concrete, structural framing and fiber-cement siding are different. Attachment methods, fasteners, thread, blocking, sealing and alignment matter. A great product installed poorly can give you years of problems.

3. MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE
These products live outside with dust, dog hair, insects and weather. Mother Nature always gets a vote. Cleaning, inspection and adjustments matter—and so does a company that answers years later.

Roughly 7,000 customers later, we have learned a lot. We started in 1999 as a side hustle. We were not perfect. We learned, adapted and kept showing up.

Today we still service shades installed 10–15 years ago. When the foundation is solid, cleaning and adjustments can help customers keep enjoying their patios and making memories.

Now I’m asking an AI agent for a complete e-commerce site, integrations, security work, and product design… and four hours later, I’m checking my watch.

Motorized Patio Screens in Dallas–Fort Worth, TX.

Builders are funny. 😄 I’ve worked with this GC for years. He pays fast—but his definition of ‘final-clean ready’ and mine are sometimes a little different! We tell every GC: motorized screens go in after the final construction cleanup. This was the day he said the project was ready and wondered why we weren’t rushing over to install. We installed because he wanted it done, then returned later—on another paid visit—to clean construction dust from the brand-new screens. Good builder. Fast payer. Questionable definition of ‘final clean.’ 😂
