As we celebrate Juneteenth and head into the last week of Pride Month, I feel compelled to say something about the appreciation I have for all those brave souls who continue to uphold the resistance in the spirit of Stonewall, the Delano Grape Strike, and Bloody Sunday ‘65. Please know that we do applaud and appreciate all of you who continue fighting for the rights and protection of our friends, family, and neighbors who are being unfairly punished simply for being human in this increasingly inhumane world (country).
Our gratitude goes out not only to those who have courageously stood up in defiant opposition, despite the diminishing power we face against growing tyrannical forces, but also to those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for the health, welfare, and dignity of those of us who are struggling during these difficult and dark times. Thank you.
As we celebrate, honor, and mourn the sacrifices of those who have risked, suffered, fallen, and disappeared, in this ongoing battle for fairness and equity, I look inside myself to find even tiniest modicum of their heroic courage.
So, let us all take a moment on this historic national holiday honoring emancipation to reflect on how we can bolster not only our protective strength, but also upon the extent of our own courage to stand up, unified, to defend those around us—fellow Americans—who are increasingly targeted for brutal, heartless, and cruel treatment.
Much love and strength to you all.
