Summer may be winding down, but California gardens can keep putting on a show. Choosing plants that bloom in late summer and fall helps extend seasonal color, support pollinators, and keep your landscape looking vibrant well beyond the spring and early-summer rush.
 
For coastal California gardens, where mild temperatures can extend the growing and blooming season, late-summer plants are an especially valuable addition to the landscape.
 
🌿 Plant of the Week: Grosso Lavender (Lavandula x intermedia ‘Grosso’)
 
Grosso Lavender is a standout late-season bloomer with fragrant silvery foliage and tall spikes of deep purple flowers. Its drought tolerance and long-lasting blooms make it a beautiful, low-water choice for California landscapes, while its flowers provide an excellent source of nectar for pollinators. We currently have Lavandula grosso ‘Bleu French Lavender’ available.

Choosing plants that are adapted to California’s naturally dry summers can help reduce irrigation needs, support local wildlife, and create landscapes that are more resilient to heat and drought. Native plants have evolved with the conditions of their region, making them an important part of building landscapes that can thrive with less supplemental water once established.

🌿 Plant of the Week: Red Buckwheat (Eriogonum grande var. rubescens)

Red Buckwheat is a beautiful example of a climate-ready California native. Its clusters of rosy-red flowers add long-lasting color to the landscape while providing nectar for pollinators. We currently have it available in both 1-gallon and 5-gallon sizes.

Monarch butterflies need more than flowers; they need milkweed!

California’s native milkweeds provide the only place monarchs can lay their eggs, making them one of the most important plants you can add to your landscape.
