Being Bee Green isn't just our name, it's how we do business. We take an environmentally conscious approach that protects the pollinators that keep our landscapes thriving. 🐝💚

When we arrive at a property and see bees, bumblebees, butterflies, or other pollinators actively working flowering shrubs or plants, we simply leave those areas alone. Whether we're providing tree & shrub care, mosquito control, or perimeter pest control, we take extra care to avoid treating plants that pollinators are actively visiting.

Matt is actually allergic to bees, which makes it pretty ironic that the company is called **Bee Green**. 😄 But as he says in the video, "They're not bothering me because I'm not bothering them."

These hardworking pollinators have an important job to do, and we're happy to let them do it. Protecting your lawn and landscape shouldn't come at the expense of protecting the beneficial insects that make our environment healthier.

Sometimes the real culprit is hiding beneath the surface. In this case, ants damaged the root system, and the extreme heat did the rest. A quick inspection can make all the difference before replacing plants that might have been saved.

🎨 A quick tip for homeowners and painters! 🌱

We recently came across a lawn with a strip of dead grass that wasn't caused by disease, insects, or heat—it was caused by paint being rinsed out onto the lawn.

Even water-based paints and paint residue can damage or kill grass if they're washed out in the same spot. The damage often follows the path of the runoff, creating a noticeable streak through the yard.

If you're painting this summer or fall:
- Avoid rinsing brushes, rollers, or buckets onto your lawn.
- Clean up in an appropriate location where runoff won't reach your grass.

Unfortunately, there's no quick fix once the damage is done. Time, rainfall, and healthy organic matter in the soil will help the area recover, but prevention is always the best solution.

🌱 Got patches of light green, wiry grass taking over your lawn? It might be bentgrass or nimblewill.

These invasive grasses often make their way into lawns through low-quality grass seed and can quickly spread if left untreated. The good news? They can be controlled—but it takes the right products and multiple applications. While the treatment process isn't always pretty, the end result is a healthier, more uniform lawn.

🍃 Is your Burning Bush turning red in the middle of summer?

If your Burning Bush is changing color in June or July, it's probably not getting an early start on fall. A tiny pest called spider mites may be to blame.

These microscopic pests feed on the leaves by extracting moisture, causing them to turn red, dry out, and eventually drop. While the damaged leaves won't turn green again, treating for mites can stop the infestation and help prevent additional leaf loss.

Burning Bushes aren't the only plants affected—Alberta Spruce and several other trees and shrubs can also experience mite damage.

🌱 Why do some lawns stay green while others struggle in the summer?

After last week's 95–98° temperatures and 104–105° heat index, the difference is easy to see.

The biggest factors? Grass variety, proper watering, and good mowing practices. Tall fescue typically handles heat much better than Kentucky bluegrass, and something as simple as sharp mower blades can help reduce stress on your lawn.

☀️ Keep Your Lawn Looking Great Through the Summer Heat! 🌱

July and August are the toughest months of the year for lawns here in Central Indiana. Hot temperatures and inconsistent rainfall can quickly take a toll, but a few simple practices can help your lawn stay healthy and green.

💧 Water deeply, not daily.
Water early in the morning (between 5–9 AM) and aim for about 1 inch of water, 2–3 times per week. Deep watering encourages stronger roots that can better handle summer stress.

✂️ Mow a little higher.
Keeping your grass between 3.25" and 4" helps shade the soil, retain moisture, and protect your lawn from heat.

🌿 Leave the clippings.
Grass clippings naturally return nutrients and moisture back to the soil, giving your lawn a little extra help during dry weather.

☀️ Keep an eye on hot spots.
Areas near driveways, sidewalks, and slopes tend to dry out faster. Giving these spots a little extra water can prevent brown patches before they start.

A little extra care now goes a long way toward keeping your lawn healthy through the summer and setting it up for a strong fall.

New sod arrives healthy because it's been heavily maintained at the sod farm—but once it's installed, it's up to the homeowner to keep it thriving.
