A new tropical wave showed up overnight. And the system we've been watching just jumped to an 80% chance of tropical cyclone formation over the next 7 days.
This is exactly why we keep watching the tropics closely.
We've talked about El Niño and how it can create conditions that are less favorable for Atlantic hurricane development. But El Niño doesn't mean hurricanes can't form. It doesn't turn hurricane season off.
Conditions change. Systems organize. Forecasts change.
And that's why preparation matters more than trying to predict exactly what this season will do.
August is the time to make sure you're ready before the forecast gives you a reason to scramble. Know your plan. Check your supplies. Review your evacuation route. Know how your hurricane protection works and make sure it's ready to go.
You don't need to know what's coming to be ready for it.
We'll keep watching the tropics and keep you updated as things develop.
What do you think? Is this the beginning of a more active stretch, or does El Niño keep the Atlantic in check?
