Most kitchen problems aren't about the cabinets. They're about the layout. A wall in the wrong place, a traffic pattern that doesn't make sense, or a room that was designed around a different way of living.

On the Cape, a lot of homes were built decades ago when kitchens were meant to be separate. Closed off. Hidden. That worked then. Most families today want something different.

This carousel walks through the three things that actually make a kitchen feel right: flow, light, and honest planning. Swipe through before your next conversation with a contractor.

If you're already thinking about a kitchen project for this fall or winter, send me a message. I'll tell you what's realistic for your home., Marcelo, Founder · West Mountain Construction · Hyannis, MA

This one came together over about six weeks. New cabinets, countertop installation, and a layout change that opened the room up to the dining area. The client had been thinking about it for a couple of years and kept waiting for the right time.

There's never a perfect time. But there is a right contractor.

We've been doing this work across Hyannis, Barnstable, and the surrounding towns since 2016. Every project gets the same attention, whether it's a small kitchen refresh or a full gut renovation.

"The whole process was clear from day one. We always knew what was happening and when.", A recent client, Hyannis

If your kitchen has been on the list for a while, send me a message and let's talk through it.

Most people only see the finished siding.

What they don’t see is everything that happens before that.

The inspection.
The prep work.
The decisions that make sure the job is done right, not just fast.

On this project, we’re installing cedar siding the way it’s supposed to be done. Proper barrier, correct spacing, attention to every detail that protects the home long term.

Because siding isn’t just about how it looks.
It’s about how it performs years from now.

That’s the difference between covering a house and building it right.

Cape Cod neighbors, if we've worked on your home, we could use a quick favor.

West Mountain Construction just set up our page on Nextdoor, where a lot of homeowners across the Cape go to find contractors they can trust.

If we've built, renovated, or restored something in your home since 2016 and you were happy with how it went, would you take a minute to leave us a recommendation there? It helps other neighbors in Barnstable, Falmouth, Mashpee, Yarmouth, and Dennis find a licensed contractor they can count on.

We dropped the link in the comments below to make it easy. It only takes a minute, and it means more to a local family business than you know.

Thank you for trusting us with your home.

A kitchen remodel quote can look very different from the final number if you don't know what drives cost. These are the three things that move the needle most on any project we run on the Cape.

First: load-bearing walls. If you want to open up the kitchen, the structural work adds time and cost. It's worth it, but it needs to be in the plan from the start, not discovered after demo begins.

Second: plumbing and electrical relocation. Moving the sink or adding an island with a prep sink means relocating lines. That work is behind the walls and it's priced accordingly. Again, not a reason not to do it, just a reason to plan for it.

Third: what we find inside the walls. In homes built before the 1990s on the Cape, we often find things that need to be addressed before the renovation can proceed. Moisture, outdated wiring, insulation gaps. We always flag these immediately and transparently.

None of this is a reason to avoid a kitchen project. It's a reason to work with someone who plans ahead.

If you want a realistic picture of what your project would involve, send me a message. I'd rather give you an honest number than a low one., Marcelo, Founder · Hyannis, MA

When we started West Mountain Construction in 2016, I made myself one rule: always show up for the first walkthrough personally. Not a salesperson, not an estimator. Me.

I still do it. Every project, every client, from Hyannis to Plymouth.

It's not because I don't trust my team. It's because that first conversation tells me things a form or a photo never can. How the house sits. What the client has tried before and why it didn't work. What they're really asking for underneath what they say they want.

A kitchen remodel is a significant investment and it happens inside your home. You should be talking to the person who's accountable for the result, not just the person who answers the phone.

If you've been looking for someone to talk through a renovation with, and you want a straight conversation with the actual contractor, that's what I do.

Drop a message with your town and what you're thinking about. No pressure, no pitch. Just a real conversation about what your home needs., Marcelo, Founder · West Mountain Construction · Hyannis, MA

Some rooms just stop you when you walk in. Not because they're fancy, but because they feel right. Everything in its place. Good light. Space to actually move.

That's what a well-planned kitchen remodel does. It's not about following a trend. It's about making the room work the way your family actually lives.

This project was in Falmouth. The homeowners had been cooking around a bad layout for years. We moved one wall, replaced the cabinetry, installed new countertops, and added an island. Six weeks start to finish.

If you want to see more work from projects across Cape Cod, Falmouth, and Yarmouth, our portfolio is on the website. Or just DM us.

You might see the truck first.
That’s fine.

Because behind it, there’s a team that shows up prepared, communicates clearly, and takes pride in every step of the process.

At West Mountain Construction, it’s not just about getting the job done.
It’s about doing it right, from the first conversation to the final detail.

That’s how trust is built. And that’s how we work.

Most homeowners on the Cape know winter comes fast. What surprises people is how quickly September changes the conditions for exterior work.

Deck staining and sealing needs three to four consecutive days above 50 degrees with low humidity to cure properly. Siding repairs and fiber cement installations have similar windows. Once we're into October, those windows get short and unpredictable.

We still have capacity to take on exterior projects right now in the Falmouth, Mashpee, and Yarmouth areas. But August is the month to start, not to finish planning.

If your deck needs staining, your siding has a section that took storm damage, or you've been meaning to sort out the exterior trim, now is the time to get on the schedule. Not because I'm trying to fill slots, but because the weather genuinely won't cooperate much longer.

Send me a message with your town and what you're dealing with. I'll tell you honestly whether we can get it done this season.
