Surface mount panel… but recessed into the wall 🤔

Looks clean at first glance, but this isn’t how these panels are designed to be installed.

Outdoor (NEMA 3R) panels are listed for surface mounting so they can shed water properly. Recessing them can trap moisture, lead to rust, and void the listing.

Sometimes “making it look better” actually makes it worse.

What do you guys think clean or code violation?
