Part 3: Progress You Can See 👷‍♂️🦺

Big milestones are happening on this project!

This phase marks the first concrete pour and the completion of the first 3 of 36 weir caps. Every pour is another step toward restoring the stream and building a stronger, more resilient waterway.

Projects like this don’t happen overnight. They take planning, precision, and a dedicated crew committed to getting the job done right. Stay tuned as we continue sharing each milestone along the way.

The Goldsborough Creek Dam Removal Project is full of engineering decisions, challenges, and lessons that continue to shape how similar projects are approached today.

In this episode, Doug takes a closer look at the relationship between dam removal, hydroelectric power, and the importance of balancing infrastructure with environmental restoration.

This is just one piece of the story, and there’s much more to come.

Follow along as Doug continues breaking down this historic project in future videos.

Every project has a story, but some have changed history.

In this first video, Doug takes us through the Goldsborough Creek Dam Removal Project, explaining the planning, engineering, and construction behind one of the first dam removal projects of its kind in the United States.

From restoring waterways to overcoming complex construction challenges, projects like these demonstrate the lasting impact thoughtful engineering can have on both infrastructure and the environment.

Watch Part 1 to learn how it all came together, and stay tuned for the next video!

🏗️ Engineering Challenge: Which Foundation Would You Approve?
A strong structure begins with a properly designed and executed foundation. Even small mistakes in footing construction can affect durability, load distribution, and long-term structural performance.
🔍 Examine Foundation A and Foundation B and share your professional opinion:
Which one reflects proper engineering practice, and what defects can you identify in the other?
👇 Civil engineers, site supervisors, and construction professionals—let's discuss your observations in the comments.

A track coming off isn’t the end of the job…it’s another challenge to solve.

When this machine threw a track, Owner Doug stepped in, got it back on safely, and had the equipment ready to get back to work. Experience and know-how make all the difference when challenges arise on the jobsite.

Every day brings something new in construction, and we’re always ready to tackle it.

A simple technique that has stood the test of time. The 3-4-5 rule is one of the most reliable ways to establish a true 90-degree angle on a job site. Precision matters, and taking the time to get measurements right from the start helps ensure quality results throughout the entire project.

At HBA Construction, we believe every successful project starts with a strong foundation and attention to detail!

📐 The (3-4-5) Rule | The Secret to Perfect Right-Angle Corners on Site
Based on the Pythagorean Theorem, the 3-4-5 method remains one of the simplest and most accurate engineering solutions for squaring layout lines and ensuring a flawless 90^\circ corner without complex equipment.
🛠️ How is it applied?
First Side (Leg A): Measure 3 units (meters or feet).
Second Side (Leg B): Measure 4 units perpendicularly.
The Hypotenuse: Adjust the corner angle until the distance between the two ends measures exactly 5 units.
🧱 Practical Benefit:
Ensures straightness in concrete foundations and red brick walls without any deviation.
Prevents squaring defects during subsequent finishing stages (flooring and ceilings).
Engineering starts with the small details in the field! 👷‍♀️🇺🇸
