Crossed 1,000+ removals across Hartford and Litchfield County earlier this year. I don't usually post milestones, but a few things stand out looking back:

The biggest lesson: no two trees are the same job. The 80-foot oak in a tight driveway, the dead pine over the kids' swingset, the leaning maple after the March storms, the 37 white pines we cleared in one day for Brian E. Every one of them needed a different plan, a different rig, sometimes a different piece of equipment.

That's the part the degree and the years of working it actually pay off on. Anyone can run a chainsaw. Figuring out HOW to bring down a particular tree in a particular spot without breaking the house, the fence, or the crew, that's the work.

Got a call last month from a homeowner whose neighbor's "guy" had told her the oak in her front yard was impossible to remove. The driveway is 8 feet wide, the house is 12 feet from the trunk, and there's a stone wall on the property line.

She'd been told three things by three different crews:
- "We'd have to take down your stone wall."
- "It'll cost double, we have to climb-and-rig the whole thing piece by piece."
- "We can't do it."

We brought the crane. Set up on the street, reached over the house, took the oak out in 6 sections in about 4 hours. Stone wall untouched. Driveway intact. Lawn fine.

This is exactly what the crane is for. If you've been told a tree is impossible, get a second opinion before you accept it.

Common question: "If you cut my tree down, can I just leave the stump?"

You can, but here's what happens if you do:

→ It rots over the next 5-10 years, attracting termites and carpenter ants
→ It sends up suckers (new shoots) for the first 2-3 years
→ You can't mow over it or plant near it
→ Eventually you have a soft, fungal mess where a tree used to be

Stump grinding pulverizes the stump and the major root flare down 6-12 inches below grade. The chip pile fills the hole. You rake it level, throw down topsoil and seed, and in a season you can't tell a tree was there.

We include grinding as an add-on to most removals. If we're already on-site with the crew and equipment, it's the cheapest time to do it.
