Eight trucks. One paver that never stops eating asphalt. A 35 minute round trip that sounds easy until you do the math.

If a truck fills every 4 minutes but the drive takes 35 minutes, you'd think we'd run out of material. Keeping the paver fed without a gap takes real-time thinking, not guesswork.

It's the kind of planning that happens before most people even notice the trucks going by, but it's what keeps a paving job moving smoothly from start to finish.

The coffee and donuts made our crew’s day. Then we read the note.

That part means a lot. People notice the work we do on their road. They also notice how we treat them while we’re there.

We see the crew working on the connection underneath it.

These joints give the bridge room to move while helping protect the asphalt where the surfaces meet. It’s specialized work, and these guys are doing a killer job.

That “ba-bump” when you cross a bridge? There’s a crew working on that.

Where concrete meets asphalt, the connection needs room to move. The flexible material in these joints helps protect that connection as the bridge moves under traffic.

Getting it right takes specialized, dirty work. And these guys deserve some credit for doing it.

You might drive over their work in a second. We wanted to stop and show you what goes into it.

Five inches deep for a reason.
We’re cutting into the Terwilliger curves to remove wheel ruts and inconsistencies that can become dangerous when the rain hits.
Water settles into those ruts. Trucks come through at 50, 60, sometimes 70 mph. That combination can lead to hydroplaning and serious accidents.
Sometimes roadwork looks like tearing up a perfectly good road.
But the goal is simple: build a safer surface for everyone driving it.
