That brown patch in your lawn? It's probably not dead.

This time of year we get a lot of calls from neighbors convinced their lawn is dying. Usually it isn't. What you're likely seeing is Red Thread โ€” a fungal disease that loves the warm, humid stretch we hit every May in Ohio. It shows up as pinkish-tan patches and looks alarming, but it's very treatable.

Grass also starts showing heat stress as temperatures climb โ€” going a little dormant to protect itself. That's your lawn being smart, not dying.

Not sure what you're dealing with? Drop a photo in the comments or shoot us a message. We're happy to take a look before you assume the worst.

Why w**ds are winning in May (and how to fight back)!

May is prime time for dandelion and clover to get the upper hand โ€” and right now, Northeast Ohio lawns are seeing it all at once. Here's what's happening: cool nights followed by warm days create perfect germination conditions, especially in thin or stressed turf where w**ds find open ground and run with it.

The good news? This window is still treatable. Pre-emergent barriers are doing their job if they were applied earlier in spring, but for anything already poking through, a targeted post-emergent application hits the w**d without stressing your turf.

If your lawn is looking more like a wildflower field than a yard right now, that's a sign it needs some backup, and we'd love to help!

Time for a Spring Lawn Care FAQ ๐Ÿค”

Moles are tearing up my lawn. Does this mean I have grubs?

Not necessarily. Moles do feed on grubs, but they also feed on a variety of other insects, such as earthworms, beetles and their larvae, centipedes, seed pods or husks, spiders, crickets, etc.

If you're concerned about a grub problem, contact us for a free lawn analysis: https://www.thegrassmaster.com/contact-us
