The scale of Edmundson becomes clear once you step inside the frame.

Tall walls, expansive openings, layered rooflines, and structural steel all have to come together with precision. Every measurement and connection plays a role in turning a complex design into one unified structure.

This is the stage where the architecture begins to feel real, and where experienced framing makes all the difference.

This Los Altos project required more than simply following a set of plans.

The three-story structure includes a full basement footprint, complex structural steel below the first floor, and a floating staircase built without internal vertical supports. Bringing the design to life required close collaboration between the architect, engineers, steel subcontractor, and our team.

When the main and second-floor layouts created additional structural questions, we drew portions of the plans at full scale on-site. This gave our crews and the other trades a clear view of the measurements, geometry, and sequence behind the build.

Progress in Pacific Grove.

Set against the rolling hills, the structure is taking shape from every angle. The tall walls and full-span roof framing are beginning to define the scale and character of the barn, and the eave details are coming to life on the main house. Windows in progress.

Before S.R. Freeman had a Santa Rosa office, our crews were making the trip north from San Francisco and staying near the jobsite to keep this project moving.

That experience showed us something important: there was real demand for the level of framing and finish work we provide throughout the North Bay.

What began as one project became a turning point for the company and helped establish a permanent S.R. Freeman presence in Santa Rosa.

Sometimes a project builds more than a home. It helps build the next chapter of a company.

Remodels rarely begin with a perfectly level starting point.

At this Campbell project, the existing home was one inch out of level and two inches out of square. Connecting the old structure to the new framing required careful planning and constant adjustment.

Those measurements matter. Kitchens and bathrooms need to be level and plumb so cabinets, tile, and finishes fit exactly as designed. Sometimes that means raising a ceiling, lowering a floor, or finding another solution before the finish work begins.

Our role also extended beyond framing. We helped lead preconstruction meetings with the other trades so everyone could follow the same plan and keep the project aligned.

That level of trust is built through years of doing the job right.

Floor framing at this scale requires more than setting joists at a spacing. The bearing points have to be right, the layout has to account for mechanical and plumbing penetrations that come later, and the steel interface has to be coordinated before the first joist drops. A floor system that is off at this stage does not just affect framing. It affects every trade working above and below it for the rest of the project.

It shows up in mechanical conflicts, delayed inspections, compressed drywall schedules, and RFIs that should have been resolved before the walls went up. Organization is not an extra effort on our end. It is what we owe every trade that comes after us.
