🌱 Seeds carry stories, knowledge, and relationships across generations.
Last fall, the Indigenous Seedkeepers Network brought together seedkeepers, knowledge holders, artists, cooks, and community members in the Upper Midwest and Southwest. Through seed swaps, story circles, traditional foods, workshops, and intertribal gatherings, participants shared practices passed down generations.

Dago'tee Everyone,

I had the opportunity to prepare for a presentation to present at the Grand Canyon South Rim, but due to the horrific flash flooding that took place the event was cancelled and at this time they are uncertain about rescheduling. Please keep the families that were involved in your prayers, and those have yet not been found. Those who are working through the waters to locate loved ones to bring them home 🙏🏽.

I wanted to share the presentation that I prepared surrounding Traditional and Herbal Medicines, and how it targets our physical and energetic body. It is always wonderful to work on presentations, to get down to the deep work and be able to discuss the work that is being done. Through personal experiences, and research I hope you all enjoy it. ☺️

First day in the process, it has been a very interesting event. Learning about different small businesses, and the opportunities for grant and financial funding. We are excited for tomorrow 😁

Our first attempt at making elderberry syrup, we added the lemon and next time we'll add ginger. We had 3 cups of fresh elderberries so we used those which is why we had to add a little more water and had to make adjustments to the recipe. Instead of a cinnamon stick I only had grounded cinnamon so we used that, remove seeds from the lemon juice when you add that to the mix.

It took a little longer than anticipated due to the fact we had to freeze the berries to help remove the stems and green berries, which made it way easier! I researched further on stems & green berries and if used and consumed it can cause gastrointestinal distress along with nausea, vomiting & diarrhea 🤮. They contain cyanide-producing glycoside called sambunigrin which even while cooked does not remove it all which can cause the individual(s) that are consuming it sick.

Be mindful of these things when creating medicine, you can also use dried elderberries which we'll use next round. We have to remove the stems from those ones, our elderberry tree gave us a lot of love this year. I am so grateful to have her, she's provided for my family and the birds & insects. She'll be getting a trim back and some love so she's ready for next year. Thank you for the opportunity and blessing us tonight so we could create this medicine. 🙏🏽🥰

We made enough that it overflowed just a little for our bottle, but each kiddo will take some along with myself. Next time, we'll need to add just a little more honey. Lol it's enough kick for us though!

This year I will be representing in Kingman AZ, I have been invited to this year's Rural Policy Forum by Local First Arizona to speak on the subject "Food is Medicine". Representing from my rural area of the Yavapai-Apache Nation, I am very honored to always adventure out into new areas with others like myself to strive for the best for the people. If you can do something of good in this world, be an advocate on the path the universe leads you down. Go so hard on it, and believe you are that one seed that helps plant new seeds for the future. One seed can change generations, be that seed and water yourself so others can follow your footsteps.

This morning my 3 daughters are working with white clay that we harvested from the land, the clay we use is what's used in ceremonies for our coming of age. I am so happy to see them working with it, my oldest received a pottery spinner and now testing the clay out on it. She's super excited and it's amazing to watch your children do the things they love 🤎

Today we had the opportunity to visit and tour a new farm family we've been bridged too and their farm is WOW! What really caught my attention was their aquaponic system, I've only seen this method one time before while touring UofA and to see this system happening outside and in our Verde Valley area is so wonderful to see. These lovely ladies have such a wonderful thing going 🙌🏽 beautiful people with beautiful goals for their future.
