I hate Squares & Rectangles
Posted on 2012-12-31 13:41:23
A friend suggested that I start a blog on how I develop empty or non-functional space, into things of art (relative to construction). Well I'm not really a writer. However, I figured I would throw something out there and if others found it interesting, respond in kind.
My philosophy is simple "I deplore squares and rectangles". When ever I look at (or for that matter think about) building something, my creativity kicks in. I conjure up all kinds of things, start drawing and then incorporate those elements into what I'm building.
Have you ever really looked at your surroundings (doors, windows, walls, ceilings, etc)? Take a look and see if you can agree. How many squares and rectangles do you see? Many folks buy elaborate (even expensive) furniture, to make things look or feel better. I think it helps somewhat but not really. I like building elements to make the statement. Adding furniture, plants, art and other comforts only as needed. Not just to draw attention away from the squares and rectangles. Please don't get me wrong. This cookie cutter approach has is place and so doesn't elaborate furniture, squares and rectangles. I just think "the room should look stunning by its self". That's the reason why I deplore squares and rectangles and strive to be different.
Please drop me a line and share your thoughts. It's OK if you like squares and rectangles.
Happy Holidays!
