How do you get shattered glass out of a hotel carpet?

You don’t sweep it. A broom drives the fragments down into the pile, and the next person who walks that floor barefoot finds them.

Somebody broke into this hotel through the glass doors, went through fourteen guest rooms and emptied the fire extinguishers across the main level. Glass in the carpet, discharge on every surface, a hand-rail gouged down to bare wood.

So the carpet gets pulled, not brushed — an extractor, one lane at a time, overlapping passes, until what comes up in the tank runs clear. Same carpet. Nothing replaced. Hotel reopened in a week.

The main level is done. The stairwell is still full of it — that’s the next one.

A school gym took on water. Under that plastic is the building’s original hardwood.

Tenting seals the floor under poly and injects dry air underneath, so the boards give up moisture instead of buckling. If it dries, the floor stays. If it buckles, it comes out and gets replaced.

We didn’t chisel this school floor up. We sat on it.

A water loss ran through the building and the water got under the tile. Once it’s under there it stays, a slab can’t dry through tile, so the moisture just sits, and sitting moisture is how you get mold six weeks later.

So the floor comes off. This is a ride-on floor scraper and it takes the tile up one straight lane at a time. Slab exposed, dehumidifiers in, room handed back.

From the outside, this house looked completely normal. 🚪

Inside, mold had taken every wall and the ceiling had come down on its own.

Here’s the part most people get wrong: mold doesn’t need a flood. It needs moisture, no airflow, and time. A slow roof leak or a pipe weeping behind drywall will do it over months, not days. By the time it looks like this, it’s structural.

The warning signs, before it ever gets here:
