🏠 Boston Home Winter-Ready Checklist

* Clean gutters & downspouts — make sure water is draining away from the foundations.
* Check the roof — look for missing/damaged shingles, flashing issues, and areas where water could get in.
* Inspect chimneys & flashing — especially if you have a fireplace or wood stove.
* Seal drafts around windows & doors — replace worn weatherstripping and caulk gaps.
* Check exterior caulking — around windows, doors, penetrations, and siding.
* Protect exterior plumbing — shut off and drain outdoor faucets/hose bibs.
* Check your heating system — have your boiler/furnace serviced before the heating season gets underway.
* Replace your HVAC filter — a simple one that often gets overlooked.
* Bleed/check radiators — if you have a hydronic heating system.
* Insulate exposed pipes — particularly in basements, crawlspaces, garages, and exterior walls.
* Check your attic insulation & ventilation — helps keep heat in and reduces ice-dam risk.
* Look for signs of water intrusion — basement walls, ceilings, windows, and around penetrations.
* Trim problematic branches — remove dead or overhanging limbs that could come down during snow/ice storms.
* Check your driveway & walkways — repair cracks and uneven areas before freeze/thaw makes them worse.
* Test smoke & carbon-monoxide detectors — replace batteries and confirm they work.
* Know where your main water shutoff is — and make sure it’s accessible in an emergency.
* Check exterior lighting — shorter days + snow/ice = visibility matters.

Rugby ABP pulling it out of the bag with a last minute change from our clients who wanted white oak balusters. Turns out they are near impossible to find in stock! So 1 1/2 rough cut milled down on site does the trick 👌🏼👍🏻☘️

A small project, but certainly not short on detail.

We built this 8ft x 5ft breezeway connecting the garage to the side entrance of the home — creating a practical, sheltered transition between the two spaces.

From framing and roofing to plaster, paint, lighting and finished slate slabs, every element had to work within a tight footprint.

Small space. Lots to think about. Finished properly. 🛠️

MEET THE FOUNDER — BOSTON IRISH CONSTRUCTION 🇮🇪🇺🇸

I’m Cathal Crossan — pronounced Ka-Hill — a highly experienced Construction Director originally from Donegal, Ireland, and now based in Boston after spending many years living and working in London, England.

Over the course of my career, I’ve worked across a wide range of construction and renovation projects, managing everything from complex refurbishments and structural work to high-end residential renovations and detailed finish work.

Just over two years ago, I brought that experience to Boston and established Boston Irish Construction.

Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to manage and complete projects throughout Greater Boston, including:
