Too often do we see this happening. Shower floor failures often occur from lack of waterproofing or the mud bed not being done correctly with enough pitch to the shower drain. This shower was lucky to even see 5 years before having to be replaced. In this case, not only did the previous contractor clog the weep holes around the drain with mortar not allowing the water to escape..there was also not enough pitch to the drain causing water to pool and saturate underneath causing the failure. After our assessment, we upgraded to a universal bonding fl**ge by Flo Fx. Packed our new mortar bed which we always bond to concrete with a slurry. Roll on our liquid waterproofing membrane and then we tile and grout!
