A really nice article from Roche + Roche that's about a special project of ours.

"Shortly after purchasing this spectacular property overlooking an open space reserve and the Napa Valley, our Midwestern clients engaged Roche+Roche to help them build their design team and create a strategy for their vision of the ideal wine country escape. Working with Field Architecture of Palo Alto, they developed a concept in which a staggered line of contemporary agrarian buildings would ride the edge of an existing clearing, reinforcing the transition from mostly level, open sunny vineyard to steeply sloping established oak and fir woodland. View corridors between buildings, plentiful glass on the forest side, and a series of landscape and hardscape spaces between buildings allow for intimate engagement with the native landscape as well as the vineyard. Builder Grassi Construction of Napa maintained tight tolerances and a clean work site to protect the existing trees and shrubs that nearly touch the buildings. Working with Dexter Estate Landscapes, Roche+Roche employed a light touch of native boulder placement, and a mostly native palette of shrubs and grasses to blur the edges between natural and man-made. A system of trails through the forest connect the compound to a native no-mow meadow and a reclaimed-steel fire pit with Adirondack chairs for 8.

Field Architecture has already been recognized by the AIA California Council’s Residential Honor Award for Sentinel Ridge, which has been featured in Luxe Magazine and Architect Magazine. It was also one of the two Erin Martin Design projects featured in Andrew Martin’s Interior Design Review World’s Top 100 Designers, in which Erin Martin was named Interior Designer of the Year.
