Woolly Star Ranch

Woolly Star Ranch I am a homesteader/Youtuber in the beautiful mountains of So. California. I raise sheep, chickens, geese, ducks & turkeys.

I share garden/propagation & homestead how to’s & create garden art out of repurposed materials. Hi there, I’m Ann, an urban micro farmer/homesteader in Southern CA. I love organic gardening, family time and raising backyard chickens and quail. Expect to see on my page: plant medicine, product reviews, how to's, and interviews from the world of sustainable farming and alternative medicine.

Our Lambs Have a New Job: Fire Abatement 🐑🔥

Two of our lambs went to their forever home as a w**d abatement team. It’s always bittersweet rehoming our babies, but these two are going
To a wonderful home and I get to see (and hear them😂) almost every day!

Fire safety is no joke in the mountains of Southern CA. Fire season can create such anxiety, so the more help you have to be prepared the better, AND sheep are an awesome addition. I know for my own property having the sheep here to double time the w**ds is worth their weight in gold!

Don’t worry, Yarrow is staying right here on the Woolly Star Ranch🐑🤍 **dabatement **dabatement

So I was working on a propagation experiment with grocery store herb cuttings from Thanksgiving. I started it the end of November and decided to post the results today. I hope you enjoy it. If you think of any plants you’d like me to try and propagate, please leave it in the comments for me. I sure appreciate you guys so much.

Incubator Surprise! One Little Gosling Hatched💚 Our Toulouse hens started laying eggs, but none of them wanted to set on the nest, so we decided to save a few eggs and place them in the incubator alongside our Black Copper Marans chicken eggs.

After the chicken chicks hatched, we had to open the incubator several times, which caused the humidity levels to fluctuate for the goose eggs. One little Toulouse gosling finally began hatching, but after struggling for nearly 3 days, I noticed the membrane was drying out and making it almost impossible for the gosling to free itself.

Normally, I don’t interfere with hatching because if a chick or gosling cannot hatch on its own, the survival rate is often very low. But this little one kept fighting so hard that we decided to give it a little assistance.

Thankfully, we were able to help this precious baby hatch safely — and now we have one sweet little Toulouse gosling! 🐣

AND Surprise: now our hens are setting on a clutch of goose eggs😉 so this little one will have buddies to swim with.

I had the wonderful opportunity to rescue these beautiful native Royal Penstemon from my dear friends property. They were having a walkway put in and didn’t want the plants to just be discarded (they are true conservationists). They called me and asked if I wanted to rescue and relocate them (if they survive - RPs can be sensitive, especially as large as these are. So what do you think I did? … you know I flew to the rescue😜
