My Winding Road

My Winding Road After closing my storefront, I’m on a journey to remodel our 100+ year old farmhouse!

It’s starting to feel like a complete home! All the drywall is now hung in the original house, and you can see what it’s meant to become! John and I spent hours cleaning up the dusty mess this past weekend so the paper can go down to protect the floors from the drywall mud and plastic can go up to, hopefully, keep as much dust as possible out of the addition. Kitchen cabinets will be measured and the layout will be finalized this week, as well! There is a chance our cabinets will be ready before the original December date we were given, so a true Christmas is a big possibility! 🤞

Yay drywall dust! I think the drywall stage is the worst stage of construction, in my opinion. So much mess, especially when you are trying to live in the attached space. Going to work on cleaning up most of what I can so I can function better mentally in our home. Plastic will go up before mudding and sanding begins. Hopefully, it will contain a lot of what is to come. We are getting so close!

So much progress on drywall over the last week and a half! 🤗 They are almost done hanging everything. Just waiting on mud and sanding!

This window has been a vision in my mind since this house process began. An old door and transom were in this spot originally, but it was always filled with bugs and spiders and let in the weather and rain. It wasn’t something we ever used, so I changed course and had a custom window with a transom built instead. It gives us so much light, and we can roll it open with an interior screen to let in the air during the mild days. It completely changes the feel of the space. I can’t wait to get it all trimmed out!

Am I behind on updates? Why yes I am! 🤣 We had some really long days getting everything ready for drywall, including putting in all the insulation. We had closed cell spray foam sprayed in the ceiling spaces of the roof upstairs and in the bay window downstairs, but otherwise, it was a (mostly) team effort between John and myself putting in the wall batting insulation. (John did most of the upstairs by himself.) This is a horrible job, so hot and itchy, but it’s done! This side of the house is already much cooler without its own ac running, only a single fan upstairs and one downstairs, than it was the whole time we lived in it before WITH air conditioning! Even in the 90+ degree heat we have been having. We are headed to the MO State Fair this week and look forward to seeing the drywall up and in progress when we get home!

I might be in a bit of a pickle. I did not appropriately anticipate the amount of plaster debris that fell into the stud spaces of the wall. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Insulation is supposed to go in this weekend, so drywall can go up next week. However, I’m not sure there is enough energy and time left for me to get all the debris cleared out before the boys catch up to me with insulation.

I’m dirty. I’m tired. No county fair for me tonight.

Gonna need some major energy and motivation, because, today, I tackle this beast. Or, at least, attempt to.

My boys were a bit hard on it during demo, so it has some pretty good scratches to fix, but as with all the other old pieces I have refinished, the scratches usually blend pretty easily and just add a bit more character.

Ready or not, drywall is going up next week, so I have to at least get this stripped down, so I don’t mess up the new drywall.

Here we go!😳
