For a 30 by 15 foot pool, that's roughly 84 gallons of water lost daily to evaporation. That's normal.

Anything beyond that is leaving the pool system.

If your auto-fill kicks on more than once every 36 hours, run this test:

Mark the water line at sunset. Cover the pool. Check the water line at sunset the next day. Subtract the standard 84 gallons.

If you've lost more than that, the water didn't evaporate. It escaped through the shell, the return lines, or the equipment plumbing.

None of those require draining the pool to find.
