Last week Wednesday, we had our company Christmas Party for all of our team that were healthy and could make it in the blizzard. We raced go karts at Grand Rapids Grand Prix, stopped by Byron Center Meats to fill the freezer, and Five Guys for a great burger. Thanks to our team for a great season! Merry Christmas

Studies have shown that homeowners have successfully mulched over 6 inches of leaves into their lawns. Mulching leaves saves time and money and provides nutrients for your lawn. Follow this link for tips on mulching leaves:

The days of raking and bagging leaves should be over for almost everyone. Studies have shown that homeowners have successfully mulched more than 6 inches of leaves back into their lawn. Laying sod is an instant, weed-free lawn, but it's rarely something that we recommend. We see many issues with sod after the first year, including fungus, disease, and failure to thrive. Don't lay sod in shade or semi-shade areas. Sod is mostly Kentucky Bluegrass, and it will not survive in the shade. If you have the option between hydroseeding and sod, NEVER choose sod. You will thank us in a few years.

Mushrooms grow in lawns when the conditions are right. The most common conditions are moisture, shade, cloudy weather, and organic material to grow in, such as rich topsoil or decayed wood. Mushrooms can form overnight and are rarely toxic.
There is nothing that can be done to prevent mushrooms. The best way to deal with them is to kick them over with your feet or run over them with your lawn mower. Once broken, a mushroom won’t grow back.

Next week is forecasted to be a hot, humid, and dry week, and you should plan to increase your watering for your lawn. Because the temperatures and amount of rainfall constantly change, we do not recommend setting your sprinkler system once for the entire season. For effective watering, you must make adjustments as the season progresses.
