⭐ A visionary. An inventor. A Pittsburgh icon.

Today, George Westinghouse joined Pittsburgh’s most iconic figures with his induction into the Pittsburgh Walk of Fame.

At the ceremony, Michael Sweeney represented Westinghouse Electric Company alongside Pamela Westinghouse, a descendant of George Westinghouse, as they honored a legacy that extends far beyond his inventions.

More than 140 years after he founded Westinghouse, George’s innovative spirit remains at the heart of what we do. His belief that technology should improve people’s lives continues to inspire our employees as we shape the future of energy.

From a legacy built in Pittsburgh to innovations powering nuclear’s now and nuclear’s next, his impact continues to shine among the stars.

WE ARE … grateful for great partners.

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi and members of her leadership team as part of our growing partnership. The visit included a look at innovation in action and a chance to connect with Westinghouse leaders, employees, retirees and alumni who continue to strengthen the ties between our organizations.

Penn State and Westinghouse share a long history of advancing innovation, developing talent and tackling some of the world's most important challenges. Together, we're creating new opportunities for research, workforce development and the deployment of technologies that will help power the future.

We look forward to continuing this important partnership and all that we will accomplish together.

A major milestone for Europe and the ITER fusion reactor: The fifth and final Vacuum Vessel sector for the massive experimental reactor built on the continent has arrived at the site in Cadarache, France.

Drawing on 16 years of experience across four previous sectors, our teams refined complex assembly and machining processes to complete this first-of-a-kind, 500-tonne component. Through thousands of intricate manufacturing tasks, they demonstrated ingenuity, craftsmanship and technical excellence.

The sector will join eight others to form the heart of the world’s largest fusion device, while expanding technical knowledge, specialized skills and Europe’s industrial capabilities for future fusion technology.

Thank you to our teams and partners at Fusion for Energy, Ansaldo Nucleare, Walter Tosto S.p.A. and ITER Organization for turning lessons learned into shared progress.

Today, Westinghouse and the University of South Carolina announced a partnership to advance nuclear workforce development through the university's planned Nuclear Innovation Center.

Together, we will explore opportunities to create a multidisciplinary training program designed to prepare the skilled workforce needed to support a fleet deployment of AP1000® reactors in the United States. Potential capabilities include advanced plant operations simulators, hands-on construction and maintenance training, and multidisciplinary engineering education.

By investing in people, skills and innovation, we are helping build the workforce that will power the next generation of nuclear energy.

The Westinghouse Atom Smasher helps to tell the story of where nuclear innovation began. We're helping ensure that story continues.

Built in 1937, the former research facility just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, helped pioneer research that shaped the future of nuclear energy. Today, teams are carefully documenting, dismantling and preserving the iconic structure before it begins its next chapter.

Stay tuned as we bring the Atom Smasher back to life!

Our APX™ technology platform is accelerating licensing!

Using the proven foundation of the advanced AP1000® modular reactor, we are rapidly advancing the design and development of our AP300™ SMR. Recently we submitted three Human Factors Engineering Topical Reports to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which further strengthens the AP300 licensing framework and highlights how decades of AP1000 experience are accelerating the next generation of nuclear technology.

And we're not slowing down.

One platform. Two products. Proven technology. Accelerated licensing.

The eVinci™ microreactor recently achieved zero-power high-temperature criticality at 663°C, demonstrating the viability of the technology to support self-sustaining fission.

Another test complete. Another step closer to delivering reliable, flexible nuclear energy solutions for emerging markets and real-world needs.

THE HEAT IS ON: Westinghouse Electric Company just reached a key milestone for its eVinci microreactor. The advanced reactor prototype completed criticality testing earlier this month, reaching core temperatures upwards of 1,000°C as the company gathered valuable data on its performance.

The transportable, heat-pipe-cooled reactor design runs on TRISO fuel and is designed to produce 5 megawatts of electricity on sites as small as two acres of land, providing resilient 24/7 energy for 8+ years without refueling.

Criticality testing was conducted at the National Criticality Experiments Research Center (NCERC), a National Nuclear Security Administration facility at the Nevada National Security Site. Partners on the project included Los Alamos National Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory and the DOE/NRC Collaboration for Criticality Safety Support for Commercial-Scale HALEU Fuel Cycles and Transportation.

Data gathered from these experiments will help Westinghouse refine its design and increase certainty around the cost, manufacturability and schedule for eVinci, which was selected in August 2026 for the next phase of the Janus Program — the U.S. Department of the Army’s next-generation nuclear power initiative to power U.S. military installations with microreactors.
