Give your lawn one final cut before shutting down your mower for the season. When through, run the mower until it is out of fuel, change the oil and the sparkplug, clean and store in your garage or shed for the winter. Fall is also a great time to have your blade sharpened. One less thing to worry about in the spring.

Shred your raked leaves by running over them with your lawn mower. Add them to your compost pile, along with some compost bio-activator to speed up the decomposition process.

Patience pays off in spring! Many native bees spend the winter inside hollow perennial stems. Wait until temperatures consistently reach around 50 degrees F before cutting plants back to give beneficial insects time to emerge safely.

Spring can be such a busy time in the garden. If you have extra time, this fall is perfect for laying soaker hose in your rose beds to easily keep up with watering needs next summer. Simply snake the hose, on top of the soil, around your rose bushes. Mulch to keep the hose in place and retain soil moisture.

Instead of doing an entire large landscape at one time from start to finish, phased landscape installation breaks the project into more manageable pieces. It may take several weeks, months or years to complete the landscape installation in phases, depending on the size of the project and what resources are available to complete it.
