As of April 6, 2026, the state-issued ban on open burning remains in effect for all 100 counties. The ban was enacted Saturday, March 28 due to hazardous forest fire conditions.

The ban prohibits outdoor burning of any kind, anywhere in the state, until further notice.

Good Morning Burnsville Fire Department, Friends, and Families,

I hope you're having a great week. The Burnsville Battle of the Badges is right around the corner and the Burnsville Fire Department is looking to take home this year's trophy but we need your help!

As a reminder, Battle of the Badges is a partnership with the American Red Cross and a friendly competition between the Burnsville Fire Department, Yancey County Sheriffs, EMS, and Burnsville Police Department.

The Agency that brings in the most blood donors brings home the coveted Battle of the Badges Trophy. This year's event couldn't come at a better time as our community's blood supply hit a critical low last month.

Please consider selecting an appointment today for Friday, February 27th at the Burnsville Fire Department and encourage a friend, family member, and colleague to do the same.

Unfortunately, we will need to cancel the South Toe Community Meeting again that was rescheduled for Oct. 27th. I’m working on rescheduling it for early December at the same time (6-8pm) and same location (Burnsville Town Center). We are pushing it to December rather than in November due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
