Severe lack of storage: another complaint we get from split level homeowners - because why did these layouts never include closets?! 😵‍💫

After adding on the entryway addition, we lost the hallway closet but added another by the front door, and created a lot more space in the kitchen.

2 18-inch pantry cabinets with roll-out shelving, full length cabinets, and two additional closets on the other side of the kitchen with more built-in storage space.

Exterior of the split-level renovation before & after.

The lawn still needs work of course, but now the home has a proper entryway that doesn’t open up straight into a staircase!

We installed larger windows for more natural light, added an additional gable roofline for dimension, and a covered front porch.

Our clients also asked us to convert the single car garage to a bedroom where it’ll get a lot more use.

New episode live on YouTube! 🥳 One of the many updates we made inside this split level house included converting the fireplace to propane, with the help of our partner, Eastern Propane & Oil who always make the process so easy!

If there’s one thing about a split level home, is it never has a centered fireplace on the living room wall. So, we like to expand the mantle to create a new focal point, and design built-in storage around that.

How to make a Cape-style home feel more open and modernized, without sacrificing character.

Opening up the staircase wall allowed for more natural light to flow, and blend the living room with the kitchen without going full open concept.

We upgraded to new bigger windows to let in more light, and converted the fireplace to electric. On that same wall, we designed custom built-in shelving for extra storage, and painted it in a stunning deep green paint color. (Vintage Vogue by Benjamin Moore)

We gave this home a whole new identity, and put an addition on the front of the house to extend the entryway, which allowed us to add a front closet and built-in storage for a mudroom area.
