Want to hear a bit of a lie?

"Deck Building Season Is Here!"

Considering we've been building decks throughout the winter, there really is no "deck building season." If we can build it in freezing temps, clearing snow off from the jobsite everyday, we can certainly build your deck in t-shirt weather too. Frankly, we'd prefer to... our fingers will appreciate it!

It's that time of year again.... Professional license renewal! In Vermont, residential building contractors are required to register with the state's Office of Professional Regulation (OPR) if conducting $10,000 or more of residential construction services in a year. It's a very basic licensing program - far simpler than electricians and plumbers are required to complete. But at least we have something and this requirement helps ensure the public has licensed, professional options when selecting a carpenter or renovation contractor. We (myself and our company, Blair Custom Builders) would very much like to see a more robust licensing process that requires passing tests for understanding of building codes, workplace safety and contract requirements that better protect the consumer. So, we take it upon ourselves to conduct our business in that manner while advocating for that more robust licensing policy.

New picture of a project from 2023. Thanks to a friend for surprising me with this pic. Three Needs had us renovate their back patio so it is comfortable year-round. 1,600ft2 pergola with adjustable motorized louvers to control your shade and rain protection. Lights, heaters and fans to bring it all together. We also installed new metal doors and took care of some other minor details. Great folks there and they're open 4p-2a everyday... Go enjoy a slice of pizza and a pint under the pergola, and remember to tip your bartender well!
