📝 Can you use baking soda to raise the pH in your hot tub? 🤔

It's a common recommendation you'll find online, but baking soda and pH Up are not the same thing.

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate and is primarily used to raise total alkalinity, while pH Up typically contains sodium carbonate and is much more effective at raising pH.

In our latest Spa Center article, we break down the difference, explain why the two are often confused, and what you should actually use when your hot tub's pH is low.

Does a microfiber filter like this whirlpool bath ProClarity® actually work? Yes, it does!

Microfiber filters do a great job catching fine debris, oils, and other contaminants in your spa water. This picture is a great example of just how much they can pick up.

On the left is a brand-new microfiber filter. On the right is one we just pulled out after four months of use. As you can see, it has turned yellow. That’s all the fine oils and debris it has pulled from the water while filtering.

Microfiber filters work great, but they don’t last forever. They need to be replaced according to the manufacturer’s recommended replacement schedule. If they’re left inside your hot tub for too long, they can eventually start to deteriorate and leave you with a much bigger mess.

So, if your hot tub uses a microfiber filter, don’t forget about it. Check your manufacturer’s recommended replacement schedule and replace it when it’s due.

Take care of your filters, and they’ll help take care of your spa!

📝 What do you use to shock your hot tub?

Not all spa shock is the same. Some contain chlorine, while others are non-chlorine oxidizers. Using the wrong one can mean adding more sanitizer to your water than you intended.

In our latest Spa Center article, we explain the difference, what ingredients to look for on the bottle, and what we recommend for routine hot tub care.

The customer called us because their newly installed hot tub wasn't working correctly.

We quickly diagnosed the problem and found the GFCI breaker was wired incorrectly, causing the spa to receive only 115 volts instead of 240 volts.

After correcting the wiring, the spa was back up and running.

If you live in the Los Angeles area and your hot tub was recently installed but isn't operating properly, contact DB Spa Repair & Service. We'll diagnose the problem and get your spa running the way it should.

📝 Do You Really Need a Hot Tub Specialist to Maintain Your Spa?

Many people assume a hot tub can be maintained just like a swimming pool. While they share some similarities, above ground hot tubs have different water chemistry, maintenance schedules, and equipment.

Using the wrong chemicals, adding too much sanitizer, or following pool maintenance practices can shorten the life of heaters, pumps, seals, pillows, and other spa components.

If you own an above ground hot tub, this article is worth the read.

We recently got a call from a customer dealing with exactly that! Despite checking all the jets, pumps, and valves, they couldn’t get a drop of water to move.

Our team headed to the back of the spa to investigate, and we quickly spotted the culprit: a major leak behind the panel. The water was escaping long before it could ever reach the fountain!

Leaking waterfalls can be a common issue, but we keep the parts in stock and ready to go. We swapped out the old unit for a brand-new one, getting everything back up, running, and ready for relaxation. If your spa features aren't performing like they should, give us a call—we’ll have you splashing around in no time.

📝 Is saving a few dollars on a replacement hot tub filter really worth it?

During a recent service visit, we discovered a low-cost aftermarket filter that had begun to deteriorate inside the spa. As the plastic broke down, it left behind a sticky residue throughout the shell that required an extensive spa detail and complete drain and refill to remove.

Not all replacement filters are built to the same standards. A quality filter helps maintain proper water flow and can help protect your pumps, heater, plumbing, and overall spa performance.
