We hear it all the time from customers who believe their hot tub's ozone system eliminates the need for chemicals.

While ozone does a great job helping keep your water clean and can reduce chemical usage, it doesn't replace the need for proper sanitization.

Here's something we see from time to time with plug-and-play hot tubs.

This customer was using an extension cord with their hot tub, which contributed to the GFCI plug overheating and becoming damaged.

While extension cords can increase the risk of overheating, this can also happen when the spa is plugged directly into a wall outlet, especially if the outlet is worn or there is a loose electrical connection.

Fortunately, when the customer called us, we had the replacement GFCI plug in stock and were able to get their hot tub back up and running in no time!

We keep these replacement plugs on hand because we know how frustrating it can be to have your hot tub down while waiting for parts.

A quick reminder for plug-and-play hot tub owners: Always plug your spa directly into a properly rated, grounded outlet. Avoid using extension cords, and if you ever notice your plug or outlet getting unusually warm, discoloring, or showing signs of damage, stop using the spa and have the electrical connection inspected.

A little attention to these things can help prevent a much bigger problem down the road!

📝 Can you use baking soda to raise the pH in your hot tub? 🤔

It's a common recommendation you'll find online, but baking soda and pH Up are not the same thing.

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate and is primarily used to raise total alkalinity, while pH Up typically contains sodium carbonate and is much more effective at raising pH.

Does a microfiber filter like this Jacuzzi ProClarity® actually work? Yes, it does!

Microfiber filters do a great job catching fine debris, oils, and other contaminants in your spa water. This picture is a great example of just how much they can pick up.

On the left is a brand-new microfiber filter. On the right is one we just pulled out after four months of use. As you can see, it has turned yellow. That’s all the fine oils and debris it has pulled from the water while filtering.

Microfiber filters work great, but they don’t last forever. They need to be replaced according to the manufacturer’s recommended replacement schedule. If they’re left inside your hot tub for too long, they can eventually start to deteriorate and leave you with a much bigger mess.

So, if your hot tub uses a microfiber filter, don’t forget about it. Check your manufacturer’s recommended replacement schedule and replace it when it’s due.

Take care of your filters, and they’ll help take care of your spa!

The customer called us because their newly installed hot tub wasn't working correctly.

We quickly diagnosed the problem and found the GFCI breaker was wired incorrectly, causing the spa to receive only 115 volts instead of 240 volts.

After correcting the wiring, the spa was back up and running.

We recently got a call from a customer dealing with exactly that! Despite checking all the jets, pumps, and valves, they couldn’t get a drop of water to move.
