There are hazards around us all the time, but sometimes the biggest danger in the home is the people living there.
This panel was found during a routine service call for a few outlets not working. For those who dont know, Zinsco and Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panels are universally black listed and are absolutely an immediate fire hazard in your home. I put together a very fair and code-perfect proposal to replace this panel with a new one. The elderly homeowner agreed and we did a rush schedule for this coming Wednesday to do the upgrade. This panel had already damaged 1 circuit in her home and I didnt want to give it anymore time than I had to.
This afternoon, I got a call from her son who proceeded to cuss me out and accuse me of using scare tactics to rip off an old woman. He claims to have been an electrician for 25 years. If this were true, he should have already taken this fire hazard out of his mother's house. It seems he is more concerned about the cash left in his inheritance than his mother's safety.
Make no mistake, if you have one of these in your home you are playing with fire. That panel doesnt care about family politics, it just melts.
Please take a look around your older family members' houses when you visit and if you see these dangerous old systems, call a licensed electrician before its too late.

Another day, another fuse box gone and a family that much safer. This 1959 home still had a 100-amp fuse service with deteriorating service wire and lots of over-sized fuses. We replaced the outside service too, upgrading everything to a new 200-amp service so they could power their new hvac system.
If your electric system looks like this, call us today to have your electric service safely upgraded to modern standards.

⚠️ Still have one of these electrical panels in your home? It may be time for a serious safety check.

We still regularly find old Federal Pacific (FPE), Zinsco/Sylvania, and glass fuse panels in homes across East Tennessee — and many homeowners have no idea they can be a fire risk.

These older panels are known for problems like:
• Breakers failing to trip during overloads
• Overheating connections
• Melted bus bars
• Double-tapped or oversized fuses
• Increased risk of electrical fires

Just because “everything still works” doesn’t mean the panel is safe.

A lot of these systems were installed 40-60 years ago and were never designed to handle today’s electrical demands like HVAC systems, EV chargers, hot tubs, large appliances, and modern electronics.

If your lights dim, breakers feel warm, you hear buzzing, or your panel looks like the ones in the photos below — it’s worth having it inspected.

Safety Notice for Cherokee Shed Owners: Pre-Wired Electrical Systems May Pose Safety Risks.
This was how the factory sent a brand new shed to one of their customers. Bonded grounds and neutrals in a subpanel and a completely out of place jumper from hot to neutral. This could have posed a huge problem had this customer not called a qualified electrician to perform the hookup of power from their home.

A big thank you to Frank and his wife for trusting us with a very unique project. He needed to get rid of all the overhead utility wires near his home, but didnt want to give GEA an easement on his property. With help from engineers at the power company, we came up with a plan to get his service underground while leaving him a place for his RV friends to hook up and plenty of extra spaces for future outdoor projects.

This homeowner's garage was previously powered by an extremely hazardous 100-amp subpanel. Not anymore. A brand new 200amp service and panel have been installed. Relocation was necessary due to its prior placement in a bathroom, which is a significant safety concern.
