This little guy visited us the other day. Even though we have dogs that have been at the wrong end of a porcupine encounter, I still find him adorable and know he deserves kindness. We had a heart to heart and I asked him to stay far away. I think he'll oblige ☺️

Find the good in everything, and goodness will find you ❤️

Let’s talk about dahlias!

Did you know…..
Dahlia tubers come in all different sizes and shapes! Some varieties grow huge tubers, others grow small tubers. Some grow a mix of big, small, fat, skinny. Good news though! The size and shape of a tuber is meaningless! BUT, your tuber does needs a body, neck, and most importantly, an eye to grow into a plant that produces beautiful blooms 😍 Eyes produce sprouts, which grow into green foliage. Tubers without an eye are blind (what else would they be called). Blind tubers may produce roots but will not produce any growth above ground. All our tubers have visible eyes so you can be sure they will produce beautiful flowers.

Our tubers are packed in brown paper bags, cushioned with pine straw and our labeling uses recycled brown paper. All our packaging is fully compostable! We recommend opening your bags outside or in a container to catch the pine shavings – we hate to be messy but we hate plastic even more!

Stop by our farm stand at 60 Church Rd in Bucksport to grab a bag of tubers! We're open sunrise to sunset this week and accept cash and Venmo.

Time for today's dahlia tip!

Did you know....
Dahlias are late summer bloomers and typically start strutting their stuff about 90 days after planting. Planting in mid May will give you flowers from August through the first frost, with a peak in September when most other flowers are starting to fade!

Dahlias grow from tubers (like a potato). Plant your tubers 4-6 inches deep and give them some room to grow. Space them about 18-24 inches apart or closer at 12 inches if you strip the lower leaves as they grow to give them some air flow. They love the heat and want ALL the sun so make sure you find a spot with at least 6-8 hours of sun but more is better! They don't like soggy feet so avoid ground that has a tendency to stay wet and water sparingly, especially until there is lots of green growth above the soil line. Too much water will rot the tuber before it has a chance to grow.

They're not difficult to grow and giving them just a little love while they grow by removing lower leaves (and pinching...an upcoming tip 😜) will give the best results!

Stop by our farm stand at 60 Church Rd in Bucksport to grab a bag of our tubers to beautify your garden! We're open sunrise to sunset this week and accept cash and venmo.

You can also grab a bag at Ledgewood Gardens Greenhouses in Orrington when you visit them to check out ALL the beautiful things they offer!

Grow with me!

The farm stand is open today with pre-assembled bags of dahlia tubers so you can grow these beautiful flowers too! 🥔🌱🌸

Stop by our farm stand at 60 Church Rd in Bucksport or grab one at Ledgewood in Orrington!

Several different grab bags are available, all with a different combination of tubers. Each tuber in the bag is labeled and all tubers have visible eyes (sprouts).

If you're not familiar with dahlias, these gorgeous flowers are a workhorse in our late summer bouquets. They are grown from tubers (think potato) and each tuber planted grows into a beautiful plant, usually 3-5 feet in height and produces blooms from August through the first frost. They can be grown in pots, grow bags, or in the ground. Complete planting instructions accompany each of our tuber bags to set you up for a successful growing experience.

Happy growing 🌱
