More fall-themed mini canvas/magnet paintings added to my gallery space. These minis seem to be my best sellers at the moment. I plan to keep this going, seasonal minis. I also added some crochet pumpkins for the season.

The Ohio Valley Paint Out 2026 is a wrap and was great fun! Thank you to Artworks Around Town for making possible another great plein air paint event! I’m glad I made the trip to Wheeling to paint with other wonderful artists in the area. I managed to pull off 4 paintings in 3 days. The first day we were located at Oglebay Park (I love it there). I started Geese on Schenk Lake #2 ( #1 was the same title from last year), lost my light and motivation, then moved across the lake to paint a little 8x10 of the ducks under a tree. The second day, Friday, sent us 35 miles west to Belmont, OH to explore Epworth Park. Here we were surrounded by a mini village of quaint, historic cottages from the park’s beginnings as a Methodist camp. My first painting was the pond with the beautiful reflections of fall colors and little foot bridge. I told myself, no way was I going to get bogged down with perspective issues trying to paint cottages. Well I did it anyway. My painting was fast and furiously done, full of perspective mistakes and leaning verticals, but I was drawn to the rustic old water pump and cute cottages and determined to finish for the show. Saturday’s assigned location was anywhere in Wheeling. I went back to Oglebay to finish Geese at Schenk Lake. Then quickly framed my pieces and rushed off to the gallery before time was up!

At the Forest Festival show reception. I was very happy to receive a “Maid of Honor award” ribbon. I’m honored someone selected my “Fishing at Sandstone Falls” out of all the beautiful and amazing work by so many phenomenal artists at the Randolph County Art Center. It is a wonderful show and I am so glad to be a part of it, my first time entering.

While I spend the day at Artistry in Main tomorrow, I will be restocking some depleted prints and cards to my space and adding some new items. Some things may be coming down to make room for some new ones. Here are some examples.

Here’s my latest: “Fishing at Sandstone Falls”, inspired by photos I took when we were there at Sandstone Falls in May. The people were so tiny in my photo but here enlarged and closer to the falls. My only regret is not being able to include more of the falls. Maybe I’ll take that on later with a longer canvas format. This one is an entry to the show at the Randolph County Arts Center for Forest Festival and will be for sale. 16x20, acrylic. Indoor lighting and outdoor lighting this evening.

The 2026 Dare Arts Fresh Paint Out event is past and we’re now headed home. I’m taking with me special memories of my first plein air painting class and meeting some truly wonderful artists and seeing others I met last year. Special thanks to artist Jeremy Sams for teaching our awesome class and serving as judge for the art show and thank you Dare Arts for hosting another memorable event!

So the painting I spent the most time on is the one of the 3 I eliminated; I can only enter 2. Here they are: “Morning at Outer Banks Fishing Pier” (painted along with the challenge of biting flies that laugh at the 3 different types of bug spray I had) and “Bodie Island Lighthouse Pond”, the one I rushed through. I’ve painted in high winds and the hottest temp 100+.

Painting this week at Nags Head and Manteo, NC and participating in the second Dare Arts Fresh Plein Air painting event. We are allowed to enter two paintings for the “wet paint” show and sale which will be held Friday Sept. 4-25. Here’s painting #1, framed and ready for the show. Not my best but with this heat wave (heat index over 100) here and strong winds, I feel lucky to get this one finished! “View of the Net Shack” in Manteo Harbor. The pavilion was the coolest place to be, so I painted what I saw and finished today in gusty winds.

“Shearing Day” based on photos I took from sheep shearing on the farm. 16x20, acrylic. I’ve always wanted to paint this version of our friends who came to help with this yearly chore with the boy lounging in a gate intently watching the process. I started by painting the entire canvas red, allowing it to peak through here and there. Showing some of the painting stages and changes.
