Here's an excellent picture of Choirstools in use. This is, of course, a recording session and the singers needed elevation above to instrumentalists.

Single-height stools were designed from the beginning to "unmask mask the voices." They are higher than three-step risers so that you aren't singing into the head of the person in front of you. That extra height, then, is a boost in any sitiation. Also note that the singers are using an additional stool to raise their music stand up to their level.

This is Steven Zielke and his Oregon State University Chamber Choir.. In this photo they are inder the direction of Roosevelt Andre Credit. They sing, yet today, on their FIRST EVER, set of Kapellmeister choirstools. This was set number 1 and it dates from 1992. What does that say for durability? Go OSU!

The NAU Shrine of the Ages Choir and Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Tim Westerhaus are preparing for a concert using their Kapellmeister choirstools. This was a performance that was part of the Flagstaff Artx Festival. The point of which is to amplify creative energy with performances in unique spaces such as the Coconino Center for the Arts Exhibition space. They are rehearsing Christopher Tin's "The Lost Birds."

This is a good set of pictures showing how using the stools behind an orchestra raises the singers up to unmask the voices and see well over the top of the orchestra. It also shows how Dr. Tim does his thing from atop our 24" x24" conductor's podium. GO NAU!!!

As a PLU alum as well as a Choir of The West alum, I sometimes go look at the PLU website to keep up on what is happening on campus regarding choral music. I happened upon the bottom of a page that goes with the following link and what should my wondering eyes behold??? A picture taken when the Choir was recording Erik Esenvalds' choral works for an album released in 2020 under the direction of Richard Nance with the help of their Kapellmeister Choirstools.

Hey everyone! The Holidays are behind us. It's time to get those programs ready for our audiences and I know that you are already well on your way to perfecting those Spring concerts.

Here's a picture of the set of stools that we built for Aurora University in Aurora, IL. These were specially built to match the interior of their performance facility on campus. These are cherry veneer with a red cherry stain. The only set that we have built of a species other than maple or birch. But as you know, we specialize in whatever you need to stage your groups.

We would love to be a part of your program as well and look forward to hearing from you regarding your needs. Order soon if you need one or two or three more stools for that next concert.

This is also the time to look at next year and submit requests for funding for stools to be delivered in the fall.

On June 17, 1992 I wrote the first invoice for the first set of choirstools. That set went to Oregon State University and it is still in service. We have now been building choirstools for 29 years.

In that space in time, we have built...

1175 single-height stools

428 double-height stools

40 single-height carts

33 double-height carts

29 single-height podiums.

That does not include custom projects like customer-specified stools and custom podiums.

Although that list would indicate quite a number of stools, the pace has not been blistering by any means. There have been good years and lean years.

The lean times include the Covid time. Until now, we had no orders since March 2020. And there were years when groups couldn't get grant money so there were no dollars to spend on choirstools following 911, for example.

On Thursday, we shipped our first order since March 2020. There is another in the shop right now that will ship in August.

We can rejoice in the fact that we are still here. A lot of my small music industry friends who rely on their sale of choral music-related products have struggled this past year. More than a few are no longer in business.

We build choirstools because there is a need. But more than that, it is the relationships that we prize so much with our nation-wide customers that keep us going.
