In 1891, John Lydick quit his job with the Sante Fe Railroad and began what became a roofing legend in Texas – the Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company. From its humble beginning in the 1891 cow town of Fort Worth, Lydick-Hooks has grown into one of the largest roofing companies in West Texas and the oldest roofing company in the State of Texas. Today, with offices in Abilene, Brownwood, Lubbock, Midland

and Wichita Falls, the firm has left its mark across the Southwest on projects ranging from modest residences to huge industrial, institutional and military installations, many of them instrumental in the growth and development of West Texas. Family involvement has always been the cornerstone of the Company’s success and continued operation. With three generations of the Lydick family, four generations of the Hooks family to three generations of the Merriman family in the Brownwood office. Brownwood and the surrounding area were served by Lydick-Hooks from Fort Worth and Abilene until March 15, 1935, when Lydick Roofing Company of Brownwood was incorporated and an office opened. In celebration of the Company’s centennial in 1991, all five companies changed their names to Lydick-Hooks in recognition of the Hooks family’s long-term contributions with no change in ownership or management. Time has proven that the longevity of Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company is due to quality workmanship and materials installed by dedicated, experienced craftsmen. Wherever you travel in Brownwood and the Central Texas area, it is likely that at some time during the past seventy-five years, Lydick-Hooks has roofed the building in which you work, your bank, courthouse, City Hall, the Church where you worship, the school or university where you or your children were educated. At Lydick-Hooks Roofing Company, we wanted to share a quick update on our progress out on Commerce Square.

Things are coming along strong, and we’ve covered a lot of ground. The recent rain slowed us down a bit, but from the aerial view, you’d never even know it.

We’re proud and honored to be part of this project right here in our hometown of Brownwood. More progress to come—stay tuned.

Storm season is here… and so are the roofers 👀

With the recent rain and small hail, our area is being labeled “hail hit”—which means the out-of-town, storm-chasing companies are already making their rounds.

If you haven’t had a knock on your door yet… you probably will.

Just a few things to keep in mind:
• Offering to “cover your deductible” = insurance fraud in Texas
• Super low prices usually mean shortcuts in materials or workmanship
• Asking to inspect your roof and leave signs in your yard is a common tactic
• Many of these crews move on quickly, making follow-up service difficult
Your roof is a big investment—make sure the company you choose will still be around after the storm passes.

Big things happening in Brownwood.

The structure is up, and we’re officially kicking off the roofing phase on this new commercial build—soon to be home to several businesses.

We’ll be installing a TPO roofing system—known for its durability, energy efficiency, and clean, reflective surface that helps keep buildings cooler and operating costs down.
