Your garbage disposal isn’t a trash can.

That sounds obvious, but what goes down the disposal can make a big difference to your kitchen plumbing.

Grease and fats are particularly important to keep out of the drain. Even when a disposal can grind food waste, that doesn’t mean every food item belongs in the plumbing system.

And when your kitchen sink starts draining slowly, repeatedly using the disposal isn’t necessarily going to solve the underlying drainage problem.

GMP Plumbing provides garbage disposal inspection and replacement, residential drain cleaning, hydro-jetting, main sewer line cleaning, sewer camera inspections, sewer repair and replacement, and more.

Plumbing Tip of the Day:
Avoid putting fats, oils, and grease down your kitchen drain. They can accumulate in plumbing and contribute to drainage problems.

If your kitchen sink is backing up or your garbage disposal isn’t working properly, call GMP Plumbing at 303 898 5501.

Backflow Prevention: Protect Your Drinking Water

In the past few weeks I have been installing or replacing residential back flow prevention systems (pressure vacuum breakers).
In some cases the customer didn’t know they didn’t have a back flow prevention system and in other cases the existing system was decades old and wasn’t working anymore.

Your residential irrigation system is connected to your home’s water supply. Without proper backflow protection, contaminated water from an irrigation system can potentially flow backward into the potable water system inside your home.

A properly installed backflow prevention assembly helps prevent that from happening by stopping back-siphonage and backpressure from sending irrigation water back toward your drinking-water supply.

In Colorado, backflow requirements can vary by water provider and municipality. Back flow prevention is part of Cities and Municipalities cross-connection control program, and applicable backflow devices must be accessible for inspection, testing, and maintenance.
In Colorado, only licensed Master Plumbers are allowed to install and work on back flow prevention devices.
Ask your plumber for their Colorado State ID to verify licensure and active license.

Plumbing Tip of the Day: If you have an underground lawn irrigation system, don’t assume the backflow preventer is working simply because the sprinklers are working. A backflow assembly can have internal components that are worn, damaged, or not functioning properly even when the irrigation system operates normally.

GMP Plumbing can inspect your residential plumbing and irrigation connection, install or replace the appropriate backflow prevention equipment, and help identify potential cross-connection problems.

Serving Broomfield, Westminster, Lafayette, Louisville, Arvada, Thornton, Northglenn, and the entire Front Range and surrounding Colorado communities.

Is your irrigation system protecting your drinking water?

Your sprinkler system uses water from your home water supply that provides potable water to your home.

That creates an important connection between your potable water system and an outdoor irrigation system.

If water pressure changes and water flows in the wrong direction, irrigation water could potentially move backward toward the drinking-water supply and bring in contaminants. That is why backflow prevention is such an important part of irrigation plumbing. This crucial device should be there to protect your health.

GMP Plumbing provides backflow prevention services for residential plumbing along with main water line services, leak detection, drain cleaning, main sewer line cleaning, hydro-jetting, sewer camera inspections, sewer repair and replacement, water heater repair and replacement, and more.

Plumbing Tip of the Day:
Don’t assume every irrigation system uses the same backflow preventer. The appropriate assembly depends on the plumbing configuration and level of hazard, and local water-provider requirements can apply. Denver Water, for example, specifies different approved assemblies for different applications and requires testing of applicable irrigation backflow assemblies. Also…don’t assume a backflow preventer is installed and part of your plumbing system…some home owner find that there is no backflow prevention at their house.

If you’re installing, repairing, or concerned about the backflow protection on your irrigation system, contact GMP Plumbing.

If you suddenly notice reduced water pressure, unexplained water in the yard, wet spots near where your water line enters the property, or other unusual changes in your water supply, the problem could be outside the house.

GMP Plumbing provides main water line repair and replacement, including leak detection, pipe inspections, and trenchless replacement methods when appropriate. Residential plumbing all around and more!

And because underground plumbing problems aren’t something you can diagnose reliably by looking at the surface alone, getting the source identified matters.

Plumbing Tip of the Day:
If you suspect a water leak, turn off all water-using fixtures and appliances and check your water meter. If the meter continues registering water use, there may be a leak somewhere in the system.

GMP Plumbing also provides main sewer line services, drain cleaning, water heater repair and replacement, gas line services, sump pumps, sewage ejector pumps, kitchen and bathroom plumbing, and more.

If you suspect an underground water line problem call us now!

“The drain is open again.”

Good.

But that’s not always the same thing as saying:

“The pipe is clean.”

Hydro-jetting is different from simply punching a path through a blockage. When the piping is suitable for the process, high-pressure water can help remove accumulated material from the inside of the pipe.

That can be particularly useful when buildup is contributing to recurring drainage problems.

GMP Plumbing provides hydro-jetting, residential drain cleaning, main sewer line cleaning, sewer camera inspections, sewer repair, sewer replacement, and excavation.

But there’s an important step before turning on the jetter: know what condition the pipe is in.

Plumbing Tip of the Day:
Hydro-jetting isn’t automatically the right solution for every sewer or drain line. The condition and type of piping should be considered before high-pressure cleaning is performed.

If you’re dealing with recurring clogs or a one-time blockage, call GMP Plumbing at 303-898-5501 to have the problem solved!

The first clue may not come from the drain that’s clogged.

Imagine the bathroom toilet starts gurgling.

Then the shower begins draining more slowly.

A few days later, the kitchen sink starts acting up.

Those aren’t necessarily three separate plumbing problems. When several fixtures start showing symptoms, the main drainage system deserves a closer look.

GMP Plumbing provides residential main sewer line drain cleaning, hydro-jetting, sewer camera inspections, sewer repair, sewer replacement, and underground sewer excavation in Broomfield and the Denver metro area.

And if the problem isn’t the sewer line, GMP Plumbing handles water heaters, leak detection, toilets, garbage disposals, sump pumps, sewage ejector pumps, main water lines, gas, kitchen and bathroom plumbing, and more.

Plumbing Tip of the Day:
If several plumbing fixtures begin draining slowly around the same time, don’t keep treating each fixture as an individual clog. The main sewer line may be part of the problem.

If you’re dealing with recurring backups or multiple slow drains, call or text GMP

Not every plumbing leak leaves a puddle.

Sometimes the first clue is a water bill that’s higher than expected. Sometimes it’s a toilet that seems to run by itself. Sometimes the leak is hidden where you can’t see it.

That’s why finding the source matters.

GMP Plumbing provides residential leak detection and repair, toilet repair and installation, water heater repair and replacement, garbage disposal service, drain cleaning, hydro-jetting, sewer inspections, sewer repair and replacement, and more.

Plumbing Tip of the Day:
Here’s a simple toilet leak test recommended by EPA WaterSense: put a few drops of blue or red food coloring in the toilet tank and wait about 20 minutes without flushing. If the color appears in the bowl without flushing, the toilet is leaking. Flush afterward to prevent staining.

Your water heater doesn’t necessarily fail without warning.

Maybe the hot water isn’t lasting as long. Maybe the temperature is inconsistent. Maybe you’re hearing popping or rumbling from the tank.

Those changes are worth investigating before you’re suddenly without hot water.

GMP Plumbing provides water heater repair and replacement for traditional and tankless systems. We also provide drain cleaning, hydro-jetting, sewer camera inspections, sewer repair and replacement, leak detection, toilet repair and installation, garbage disposal service, sump pumps, main water line services, and more.

Plumbing Tip of the Day:
Sediment buildup can reduce the efficiency of a tank-style water heater. EPA WaterSense recommends annual flushing to reduce sediment buildup, but homeowners should follow the manufacturer’s instructions and use a qualified professional when appropriate.
