Caliber’s story...

Caliber officially became a business in 2008, but the formulation of it all started much earlier. Andy and Nicci Holtzen met at the UW-Madison and graduated in 2001. Andy’s degree was in Economics, but he preferred working with his hands in the trades. So he bought a tool built and went to work with a local contractor to learn. After a year in the Madison area, Andy and Nicci decided to move out west and lived in Denver for about 5 years. This is where Andy worked with and fell in love with cabinetry. In 2008, with one child and another on the way, the Holtzen’s decided it was time to move back home to Wisconsin to be closer to both their families. Andy had an offer from his company to start a franchise, but they decided to do it for themselves. So in the fall of 2008, Andy and Nicci moved across the country with their 19 month old son and 4 week old daughter, into a house that they had bought sight unseen and started a business in the worst economy the country had seen since the Great Depression. Neither knowing anything different nor any better, they worked hard and grew the business from their basement and garage. In 2010, they built a 700sf shop on their property, in 2012 they hired their first employee, in 2014 they moved to a 3500sf shop in Brooklyn and in 2018 they expanded and doubled their space. They now have 4 wonderful guys working with them and thoroughly enjoy making beautiful, custom cabinetry for their customers!
