Smarter Energy Services

Climate Week NYC 2026 gave the Smarter Energy Services team the chance to attend events across the city, meet people working on climate solutions, and hear new ideas about clean energy and affordable housing.

From the Nest Climate Campus to community discussions and panel sessions, to the Queens Climate Expo, one message stood out: clean energy works best when more people can access it and benefit from it.

We’re bringing those conversations back to our work helping New Yorkers explore community solar, rooftop solar, and ways to manage energy costs.

Thanks to everyone who shared their time and ideas with us this week. Let’s keep the conversations going. ☀️

🏢 No equipment, construction, or upfront investment
🔑 Options for organizations that lease their space
🌱 A meaningful sustainability story to share with customers, donors, members, and grant funders
📉 Greater protection against rising electricity costs

An important development for the future of community solar:

The Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA) is bringing its team and policy work into the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).

For more than a decade, CCSA has helped expand community solar and make clean energy accessible to more households, businesses, nonprofits, and communities.

Combining CCSA’s specialized community-solar expertise with SEIA’s broader industry platform can create a stronger, more unified voice for policies that increase renewable-energy access, add clean power to the grid, and help electricity customers reduce costs.

Smarter Energy Services looks forward to seeing how this next chapter supports the continued growth of community solar nationwide.

Since it’s National Clean Energy Week ♻️ we thought we’d spread the word! 📢 Did you know?? 🔔 By 2040, New York State aims to rely 100% on clean energy.

Here are THREE WAYS that the state is currently moving toward this goal:

1. The Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE)

A recently built transmission line that delivers hydropower directly to NYC from Quebec, Canada. This accounts for 20% of the city’s electricity!

2. 1,000 Megawatts (MW) of Solar Power by 2030

The city is pushing for 1,000 MW of solar energy by the year 2030. Currently, they’ve met half of this goal.

3. Investing in Offshore Wind

As part of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), our state is aiming to build offshore wind (wind turbines built in marine environments) worth 9,000 MW.
