🏌️‍ What a day on the course!

On Thursday, August 13, we hosted the 18th Annual CDI/D&I Railroad Golf Outing at the Brookings Country Club, and we couldn't have asked for a better event. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us and helped make the day a success!

Because of your generosity, we raised over $6,700 for charity donating $3,390.00 to Feeding Brookings and $3,390.00 to the Brookings County Food Pantry – Brookings, SD. 👏❤️

Congratulations to this year's champions for taking home the coveted hardware and earning ultimate bragging rights! 🏆

Thank you to all the golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who made the outing such a great time. We can't wait to do it again next year!

As another summer comes to a close, we'd like to extend a sincere thank you to our interns for all of their hard work, enthusiasm, and contributions to Civil Design Inc.

Throughout the summer, our interns gained hands-on experience by working alongside our engineers, surveyors, technicians, and support staff on a variety of projects across the region. Their willingness to learn, ask questions, and take on new challenges made them valuable members of our team.

At CDI, we believe investing in the next generation of engineering professionals is important, and it has been a pleasure watching these students grow their skills and gain real-world experience in the civil engineering industry.

Thank you for a great summer. We wish each of you the best as you return to school and continue pursuing your goals. We look forward to seeing all the great things you'll accomplish in the future!

🎉 Exciting week for Brookings as Target officially opens their doors at Brookings Marketplace!

Civil Design Inc. is proud to have provided the engineering and surveying services that helped bring this development from concept to reality. Working with Ryan A+E and the City of Brookings, our team was responsible for performing the topographic and boundary survey for the site, for replatting the property, and for the design of the site including street and parking lot design, utility and grading design, hydraulic modeling, and stormwater detention pond design for the new retail center.

The project included extensive site improvements such as grading, water and sanitary sewer infrastructure, storm sewer systems, asphalt and concrete paving, sidewalks, curb and gutter installation, and erosion control measures. The development also features stormwater detention ponds designed to manage increased runoff and support long-term sustainability of the site.

Brookings Marketplace was designed to accommodate approximately 148,000 square feet of retail space, along with parking, roadway access, and future expansion opportunities. Final design was completed in 2025, with construction beginning shortly thereafter.

We're honored to have played a role in a project that will serve the Brookings community for years to come and help support continued growth in our region. Congratulations to everyone involved in making Brookings Marketplace a reality, and welcome to Target and ALDI!

We’re excited to have this talented group of students from South Dakota State University (SDSU) joining us this summer. They’re already diving in, gaining hands-on experience, learning the ropes, and bringing great energy to our team—we couldn’t be happier to have them here!

BX Civil & Construction is doing a fantastic job on this cast-in-place box culvert project for the Minnehaha County Highway Department! The previous aging structure required replacement due to weight restrictions and restricted wide agricultural equipment. We are happy to partner with Minnehaha County & BX Civil & Construction on this project. Looking forward to having the road re-opened soon!

CDI performed all engineering aspects of the project including topographic survey, hydraulic analysis, structure replacement and approach grading design, plan development, permitting, bidding, and Construction Administration services.

Help us honor Chris Brozik, PE, Vice President of Structural Engineering at Civil Design Inc., for 15 incredible years of dedication and leadership! 🎉

Since joining CDI as a Project Engineer in 2011, Chris has grown into a Principal Engineer and now leads our structural department. He has played a key role in our firm’s success, bringing expertise in highway and railroad structures, bridge design, and construction administration to projects across South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and beyond.

Chris’s portfolio includes landmark projects such as:
✅ Ellis & Eastern Railroad improvements
✅ Emergency replacement of Bridge T-648 after catastrophic flooding
✅ SDSU College Avenue Utility Walk Tunnel Design
✅ Multiple county bridge and culvert designs

Beyond engineering, Chris is a STEM mentor, a Leadership Brookings graduate, and was an active member of the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. His commitment to professional growth and community involvement is truly inspiring.
