Some common misconceptions about Roof Restorations and Coatings...…
1. All coatings are the same -
Not true, there are a lot of different coatings out there, but the main ones are Aluminum, Acrylic, Silicone and Polyurethane. Each have their purpose but nowhere near similar.
2. A roof restoration is just a short-term solution -
Again, not true, when you start getting into the silicones and the polyurethanes, we are talking a lifespan of decades. Warranties on the labor can be up to 20 plus years and material warranties up to 50 years, all backed by the manufacturer. If done at the right time, you wouldn't have to ever replace the roof again.
3. Roof Restoration and the products used are new -
Maybe the idea of a restoration is new to Wisconsin but not at all new. Silicone first started getting used back in the 1960s and has been improving and more widely used ever since. Polyurethane is even older, getting its start in the 1930s. These roofs are withstanding the test of time.
4. Roof Restorations are easy enough to do on your own -
If we have the time and the will, what aren't we able to do on our own? Although the process of a Roof Restoration may look simply there are many ways a Restoration project can go bad. That's why a solid knowledge base of Roofing (and its materials), Architecture, Moisture Detection / Mitigation, Safety, the Industry itself and even basic Chemistry is necessary to successfully complete a Roof Restoration and have it last the guaranteed lifespan and beyond.
5. All roofs can be restored -
Not true, not all roofs can be restored. Some roofs are just way too far gone and saturated in moisture to be restored. If the roof system is more than 20% saturated in moisture a Roof Restoration isn't the answer. Whenever a coating is used 0 moisture can be present. That is why knowing how to find and get rid of moisture is extremely important but worth it in the end.
