We are springing forward and that means a lot of rain and heat! Here are some tips for the upcoming summer months:
Check for leaks
Look for leaks in faucets, pipes, and fixtures. Small leaks can waste water and increase your utility bills.
Test your sump pump
Summer rains can strain a sump pump. A plumbing professional can test it to ensure it can handle storms.
Check your water heater
Check for leaks, rust, or corrosion. Also, check the temperature and pressure relief valve to make sure it's working properly.
Clean gutters
Gutters keep water away from your home's foundation. Clean gutters of debris like leaves and twigs.
Inspect sewer lines
Summer storms can cause soil to shift, which can move and break pipes.
Inspect outdoor faucets
Inspect hose bibs, exposed pipes, water valves, and spigots for proper functioning and damage.
Insulate pipes
Insulate pipes in unheated areas of your home, such as the basement, attic, or crawl spaces.
Test your water system
Check your water meter when no one is home and nothing is using water. If the numbers are the same when you return, there probably aren't any leaks.
Hot weather can also cause damage so it better to be safe than sorry.
