Delivered! 🎨

Nine custom display plinths completed and delivered to the Pomfret School Art Gallery!

This project started with a request for a variety of sizes to give the gallery flexibility when displaying student artwork and other pieces. Each plinth was individually fabricated, carefully sanded and prepared, then spray finished in a clean white semi-gloss for a simple, professional gallery appearance.

Projects like this are a great example of what we mean by custom. Whether it’s a piece of furniture for your home, built-in cabinetry, or something completely unique for a school, business, or organization—if you have an idea, we can figure out how to build it.

Really pleased with how this set came together, and I’m looking forward to seeing some artwork displayed on them!

And THIS is why we build custom!

A few weeks ago, this was a sketch on graph paper.

Then it became a pile of cherry plywood and hardwood in the shop.

Then a wall of finished bookcases.

And now…the client has moved in. I think this might be my favorite picture of the entire project.

Custom furniture isn’t just about filling a space. It’s about building something specifically for the people who are going to use it—and seeing this library filled with a lifetime of books is exactly what this project was designed for.

Custom isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about how it works.

Every cabinet in this kitchen was built specifically for this home and these homeowners. From the inset shaker doors to the solid maple interiors, every detail was designed with craftsmanship, durability, and functionality in mind.

Some of my favorite features include:
🔹 Solid maple cabinet boxes and interiors
🔹 Hand-painted inset doors and drawer fronts
🔹 Soft-close dovetail drawers
🔹 Custom maple butcher block with walnut and cherry inlays
🔹 Corner pull-out storage for easy access
🔹 Built-in organization designed around the way the family uses their kitchen

There are still countertops to be installed, but seeing the cabinetry come together is always one of the most rewarding parts of the project. It’s exciting to watch a customer’s vision become reality.

This project is officially complete!

From a sketch on graph paper... to a wall of handcrafted cherry bookcases.

Designed specifically for this home, these custom cherry built-ins transformed a blank wall into a beautiful, functional library. Every component was precision-machined, hand assembled, finished in the shop, and carefully installed to create a piece that looks like it has always belonged here.

One of the things I enjoy most about custom woodworking is that no two projects are ever the same. Every home is different, every client has a unique vision, and every piece is built from scratch to fit both.

Four years ago, I built my first truly custom piece of furniture with my father in law Bill Towers.

It wasn’t in a commercial shop. There wasn’t a CNC router, a spray booth, or a wall full of clamps. Just a stack of pine boards, a handful of tools, and the determination to build something by hand.

Looking back at these photos is a reminder of how far Connecticut Yankee Crafts has come. Today we’re designing projects digitally, machining components with CNC precision, and building custom cabinetry, built-ins, furniture, and architectural woodworking for clients across Connecticut.

Every project since that first one has taught us something new, and we are grateful to everyone who has trusted us to build something for their home.

Here’s to four years of sawdust, learning, long days in the shop, and creating pieces that will hopefully be around long after I’m gone.

Thank you to everyone who’s been part of the journey. The best is still ahead.
