🎬 Director’s View — Final Day!

Putting the finishing touches on this complete pond and landscape renovation. What started as an existing pond and tired landscape has been upgraded from the water feature all the way through the planting beds.

💧 Pond upgrades: New Aquaforce pump and plumbing, an UltraKleen pressure filter with built-in UV, plus a new spillway bowl that adds another visual element while providing additional biological filtration.

🌿 Landscape renovation: We completely demoed the existing beds while preserving the established trees, then installed an entirely new planting design with fresh bark and river rock accents along the edges.

💡 Lighting: New low-voltage LED landscape lighting throughout the beds to bring the landscape to life after dark.

💦 Irrigation: Upgraded with a new manifold and battery-powered solenoid, along with all-new surface drip irrigation throughout the landscape beds to efficiently water the new plantings.

Projects like this are why we love renovation work. We can take the pieces worth keeping, upgrade the systems behind the scenes, and completely transform how the entire space looks, feels, and functions.

🎬 Director’s View — Part 2: Upgrade Complete!

Yesterday we showed you what we found. Today, we get to show you the finished product.

The clients are thrilled with the results, and we’re already talking about some additional upgrades we can make next spring.

Sometimes a pond doesn’t need to be completely rebuilt. Identifying the real problem, correcting it properly, and making a few thoughtful upgrades can completely change how the feature looks and performs.

🎬 Director’s View: Pond Cleanout + Skimmer Upgrade

A little behind-the-scenes look at one of today’s pond cleanouts — with an important repair mixed in.

This existing pond had a skimmer that was improperly installed inside the pond liner, which created a significant leak.

We removed the old setup and upgraded the pond with a new Aquascape Signature Series 1000 Skimmer, installed properly so the liner is mechanically sealed to the face of the skimmer.

A pond can look great on the surface, but the details you don’t see are what determine how well it performs for years to come.

Got a slope? Don’t settle for steps that feel like an afterthought.

The right landing steps can turn a difficult hillside into a comfortable, natural transition through your landscape—and they can become one of the features that gives the entire space character.

Whether the design calls for a natural look or something more formal, we have a variety of ways to create functional transitions through elevation changes. These projects feature Castohn irregular and dimensional steps, Belgard landing steps, and natural stone landing steps.

Too often, we see hillside steps built from landscape timbers that eventually rot and fail—and when properly installed, they aren’t necessarily that much less expensive than a permanent solution.

We also see steps constructed from retaining wall block. Block can work in the right application, but the construction and dimensions matter. Shallow treads and undersized landings can make a staircase awkward and uncomfortable to navigate, while improper base preparation can lead to movement and failure over time.

Good landscape design isn’t just about how something looks the day it’s installed. It’s about choosing the right materials, establishing proper grades, building a solid base, and creating steps and landings that feel natural and comfortable to walk.

Four years later. 🌿

One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is coming back to a project years later and seeing how it has matured.

Brookside completed this project four years ago — landscape design and installation, water feature, landscape lighting, and a Belgard Mega Arbel paver patio.

The plants have grown together, the groundcovers have softened the rockwork, the water feature has settled naturally into the landscape, and the hardscape still provides the structure that ties everything together.

A beautiful landscape isn't just about how it looks the day it's installed. What you can't always see in the finished photos is just as important — proper base preparation, drainage, grading, irrigation, planting practices, construction techniques, and choosing the right materials and plants for the site.

Those details require knowledge, experience, and craftsmanship. They're also what give a landscape the opportunity to look better four years later instead of worse.

Good landscape design should anticipate what a property will become, not just what it looks like on installation day.

And watching that vision mature might be one of our favorite parts of this business.
