๐จ CALIFORNIA HOMEOWNERS WITH SOLAR: 2026 COULD BE AN IMPORTANT YEAR TO ADD A BATTERY.
If you already have solar but never added battery storage, there are a couple of reasons to take another look before the end of this year.
California currently has a property tax exclusion for qualifying active solar energy systems.
That exclusion is scheduled to become inoperative January 1, 2027.
Why does that matter?
๐ Qualifying battery storage that is part of an active solar energy system can be included under the current rules.
๐ Systems that qualify before the deadline can generally remain excluded from property-tax reassessment until a future change in ownership.
๐
After January 1, 2027, new equipment may be treated differently for property-tax purposes.
And there is another reason to look now.
Some California homeowners with existing solar may currently qualify for battery incentives programs that can reduce the upfront cost by approximately 25% to 35%.
That means 2026 could create a unique window where you may be able to:
๐ Add backup power to your existing solar
๐ฐ Take advantage of available battery incentives
๐ Potentially qualify under the existing California property tax exclusion
One important detail: waiting until December to start may be too late.
Equipment availability, engineering, permitting and installation all take time. The important date is not when you ask for a quote. It is whether the project qualifies under the rules before the deadline.
If you already have solar but no battery, message me your address and Iโll check what battery options and incentives may currently be available for your home.
