Some of us are like houses without insulation.
Every day the outside weather pours in and we have to constantly figure out ways to feel safe, to feel warm and ok, despite the recurring damage from being exposed again and again to other people's elements.
It’s hard to repair, especially without insulation.
But one way to insulate is with reframes.
By reminding ourselves that other people’s behavior is not much different from winter, spring, summer and fall, except people’s hurricane seasons don’t tend to come with warnings.
But we can prepare ourselves by creating a shelter within ourselves, a secure space insulated with our own love, understanding and compassion.
And we can visit this secure space every time we remember it’s there, and it will protect us from other people’s elements.
And once we’re fully insulated, we can begin to repair the damage using validation, wisdom and humor.
And we can stay out of harm’s way by checking the weather around us before leaving our secure spaces and exposing ourselves to conditions out of our control.

P.S. This is my first illustration in almost a year. I’ve been sick for most of it. And I’m grateful to be feeling well enough to begin creating stuff again. Hopefully more to come! ❤️
