I am telling you the truth.

I know I have posted about this before, but it keeps coming up and I will keep posting about it again. When I come to your house or we speak on the phone, I will always tell you my honest and truthful opinion about whatever situation you have going on. So if I think something needs to be replaced, then I genuinely think that. If it can be repaired or salvaged. I am also happy to tell you that. I am not the contractor to upsell you and get more work simply for the benefit of more money. I do not think that approach or mindset cultivates a mutually beneficial relationship between myself and my clients.

That being said, if I tell you, I am not the right person for a particular job, please believe me! It may be that you’re asking me to do something that I don’t have a lot of knowledge in, it may be something that I have a little bit of knowledge in, but I don’t want to get myself in over my head, it may be something I simply don’t wanna do But I can assure you there will always be a reason that I am referring you to what I feel like is the best person to handle that job for you. So if ever a contractor tells you they’re not interested please don’t try to convince them to do it anyway whether it’s me or anybody else.

Thank you

Do you know a contractor you could recommend to me?

I often have been asked if I could refer a contractor to someone for electrical or roofing or whatever. Here are my best suggestions for how to find a decent contractor.

1. Ask a contractor that you trust if they could give you the name of someone.
2. Put it out in Facebook and see if any names keep showing up.
3. Go to the local supply house or lumber yard and ask them for a name.

I would generally avoid the big companies that do a lot of advertising. Often times the price you’re given will reflect the fact that you’re paying for fancy uniforms, fancy decorated vans, and all of that advertising that you saw.

Hopefully this helps.

Pricing and payments.

This came up again today (as all of my posts are based on experiences that I have).

When I give you a price for a job, I give you the very best price I can offer the first time. Once a job is complete. I do collect at the time of service, unfortunately, I do not do a cash discount. All jobs are processed through the company And are recorded as such.

I accept cash, personal checks, business checks, or Venmo. Unfortunately, still no credit cards.

I am always happy to explain the invoice you’ve been given and answer any questions that you might have.

Thank you

Please never say this to any contractor!

This happened again today, and there are fewer giant red flags for every single contractor I know. A customer was describing a job for me and kept referring to their job as simple and easy. Stop doing that. Because if it were simple and easy, you would not be calling a professional to do it.

Thank you

WHY WOULD YOU OVER PAY FOR SERVICE??

When you call a company (any company) and they dispatch a technician from their big shop, into a fleet of vehicles, and the tech shows up in a freshly pressed uniform. It’s all very professional and very impressive. But please remember YOU are paying for all of that. You pay for the big shop, the office manager, the fleet of trucks, all the uniforms, all of the advertising. You will pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars extra for a job to support their business choices.

I would prefer you spend your money with a smaller local company that gives fair pricing, honest answers, and reliable service,

Have a great day

Another round of really cold weather this week. You may want to close and drain outside water??

Please don’t say these words.

When a customer calls or text and says this is a simple job, an easy job, a quick little job,
Or the very worst is “I’d do it myself but I don’t have the tools”. every single contractor I know is immediately turned off to the idea of doing that job.

The majority of times we find this is said in an effort to imply that this should be cheap and quick. But the contractor hears that what you’re really doing is discounting our knowledge and our value. If the job was in fact, simple, or quick then the homeowner would do the job with the assistance of YouTube.

When those words are spoken two things immediately happen ,
1. The price goes up 2. The availability of the contractor to do the job goes way down.

Instead just briefly describe what needs to be fixed and ask if and when the contractor is available to take a look and provide a price. It will work out better for everyone.

Thank you
