❄️ Brainerd Lakes folks—it’s bone-chilling out there! -20°F to -30°F lows with wind chills to -40°F or worse through the weekend. Extreme Cold Warning in full effect—stay inside, check neighbors, check your furnace vents!
Huge props to Crow Wing Power for keeping us powered up. They get our electricity wholesale from Basin Electric Power Cooperative out of North Dakota—their mix includes natural gas that can fire up fast when demand explodes for heat like right now.
Wind and solar are great additions, but in this stable Arctic air (calm winds, short days, iced/snow-covered panels), they can’t always meet the massive spike alone. Natural gas steps in as that dependable, on-demand source to prevent shortages or blackouts—literally what’s keeping our furnaces running and lights on in rural MN.
