About 8 degrees on this roof should 1000% trigger the common sense button in a roofers brain that it needs a flat roof system. Unfortunately for this homeowner, they elected to install an architectural asphalt shingle further taking away the pitch and making each shingle a miniature lake that leaked inside. Today we are removing this entire mess, installing new deck material and then installing an EPDM roof (rubber) with proper form flashings and this leaking roof will be just a memory for the owners. Also correcting some hack work around the windows with significant rot.

I get called to make repairs on houses all the time caused by other roofing companies and more times than not it is foolish mistakes like the one shown that are the issue. On a shallow pitched roof having this much of the bathroom vent pipe flashing exposed allows water to move laterally and find its way inside. Minimal exposure allows for the water to hit the flashing, run down the shingles and off the roof. Bathroom vent pipe flashings are one of our most common repairs to make when chasing leaks in roofs.
