We’ve been fortunate with storms lately, and hopefully that continues. But living in Florida means it never hurts to know the basics before you need them.

🌀 FLORIDA POOL OWNERS: SAVE THIS BEFORE THE NEXT STORM.

When hurricane prep starts, there are about 100 things running through your head.

Thankfully, getting your pool ready does NOT need to be complicated.

Here are the big DOs & DON’Ts every pool owner should know! Save this post. 📌

Worth saving for hurricane season. And if you know another Florida pool owner who could use this, send it their way or share!

Happy Labor Day from the Jackson Custom Pools family. 🇺🇸

Today is for cold drinks, good food, good company and not answering emails. Hopefully you are doing all three from a pool chair.

Funny thing about Labor Day in Southwest Florida. Up north, this weekend is when pools get covered for the year. Down here, it is when we start building them. The heat eases, construction weather gets more predictable, and the families who start the design process this fall are the ones swimming when it warms back up in spring.

So enjoy the day off. And if you spent all summer saying "next year," this might be your sign.😎

Not all pool finishes are the same.

Standard plaster looks good on day one. But in Florida's heat, UV, and chemistry conditions it shows its age faster than you think.

We use finishes that last longer, feel better underfoot, and hold their color and texture for much longer. They cost more upfront. They cost less in the long run.

We walk every client through their finish options during the design process so you know exactly what you are getting and why.

No unnecessary upsells. Just honest guidance from a team that has built 700+ pools and seen how every finish holds up over time.

Your pool after dark is a completely different experience. ✨

LED lighting transforms a backyard the moment the sun goes down. The right setup means your pool, spa, and outdoor space are just as beautiful at 9pm as they are at noon.

Color-changing LEDs. Underwater fixtures. Landscape uplighting on your palms. Pathway lighting on the travertine. Screen lighting. Every detail considered during the design process so your backyard works beautifully around the clock.

This is the part of the design conversation most builders skip. We never do.

What is the difference between a sun shelf and a tanning ledge? Hint: same thing, and your kids will LOVE it. ☀️

A sun shelf (also called a tanning ledge or Baja shelf) is a shallow, flat entry area built into the pool. Typically 6 to 12 inches deep, it is perfect for:

🏖️ Loungers and chaise chairs in the water
👶 Young kids playing safely in the shallow end
🐶 Dog-friendly pool entry
☀️ Soaking up the Florida sun without fully submerging

It is one of the most requested features we build, and once you have one, you will wonder how you ever lived without it.
